Hey all!

I'm baf1 and I'm a student at Oklahoma State. Everyone in the country who is involved with college football right now knows there's controversy over a possible LSU-Alabama national championship game...so I'm doing a report over it for my Business Communications class. I've posted this poll on OrangePower and TideFans, but I know will both of those forums are going to yield very skewed results. So I found your board in hopes of getting a little less bias when it comes to the poll.

Thank you for your participation!

EDIT: Bah, it shortened the poll question. It was supposed to be "Should winning your conference be a prerequisite to playing in the National Championship game?"

Beating Iowa State should be a prerequisite to playing in the BCS Championship Game.

I voted yes. But let me just say this. It's a win-win for the NCAA every year. And this is why the NCAA will NEVER change the way they do things. If the two teams are evenly matched and it looks like it will be a good game - win. If there is controversy and all the talking heads on t.v., radio and newspaper are blathering on about the injustice of the system, team C getting screwed over, blah, blah, blah - win again - more free publicity for the tournament.

Not to be a debbie downer but the NCAA is fat, happy and unlikely to change anything.

Just my 2 cents.

Speaking for myself I am also quite happy and quite fat.

But I did just put on a fresh shirt.

I would say yes. You should win the conference. But honestly, there is just too few games played with too many teams to analyze the teams objectively. I think there should be a selection committee or something that weighs the "eye test" with some objective criterion.

That being said, the two best teams in the nation this year seem to be LSU and Alabama. I just don't see the point in a rematch.

I voted no, but I didn't want a rematch in 2006, and I don't want one this year, so I'd vote Oklahoma State #2 if they win the Bedlam game this week.

I voted YES,

1) The 2nd best team in one conference may be better than all the other conference winners; however, how do you really know that? The polls are subjective and just some people's opinions. The conference champions are determined by "on the field".

2) If you didn't win your own conference you definitely aren't the best team in the country and I don't believe that you should be playing for the National Championship. And YES I know what they do in basketball.

3) (In my opinion) an ideal playoff would seed all the 6 BCS conference winners, and 2 non BCS conference winners and/or independents, etc. And YES I know choosing which 2 non BCS conference champions and/or independents for the playoff may be subjective (i.e rankings); however, I see no other easy way to do it.

Anyway, good luck with your class report. You might consider posting a copy on this board. It might be interesting reading.
