    • The Buckeyes traveled to Urbana-Champaign to take on the Fighting Illini in a 3-game series over the weekend. The Bucks dropped 2 of 3.

    Game 1

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State baseball team fell, 1-0, in 15 innings Friday night in game one of a three-game series at Illinois at Illinois Field. After more than three hours and 56 minutes of scoreless baseball, the Fighting Illini (19-16, 5-5 B1G) plated the game-winning run on a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the 15th inning. The Buckeyes drop to 24-13-1 overall and 4-6 in Big Ten play.

    Kyle Michalik received the loss to drop to 1-1, tossing 0.2 innings on one run, two hits with one strikeout. Charlie Naso received the win, improving to 1-1, throwing the final inning with a pair of strikeouts.

    Game 2

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State baseball team pounded out 15 hits, while senior left-hander John Havird and freshman right-hander Ryan Feltner limited the Illini bats to one run in a crucial 9-1 victory in game two of a three-game series at Illinois Saturday afternoon at Illinois Field in Champaign, Ill. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 25-13-1 overall and 5-6 in Big Ten play, while the Fighting Illini drop to 19-17 and 5-6 in conference action.

    “Today was exactly what the doctor ordered and we needed to respond,” head coach Greg Beals said. “We responded in a strong way – on the mound, our defense and the offense too. It was good to see those bats. Hitting is a confidence thing and to knock out 15 hits was great to see. We had seven extra-base hits and we need to roll that confidence into tomorrow. We came to win a series and that opportunity is now on the board.”

    Game 3

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A ninth-inning rally ended just short as the Ohio State baseball team fell, 5-3, in the series finale at Illinois Sunday afternoon at Illinois Field. The Buckeyes (25-14-1, 5-7 B1G) scored a run in the top of the ninth on a Craig Nennig home run and had the tying-run on second base, but a ground out to the right side sealed the series win for the Fighting Illini (20-17, 6-6 B1G).

    Ronnie Dawson had another big day at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, one run scored and two RBI. He also made a leaping catch against the wall to end the bottom of the second. Tre’ Gantt went 2-for-3 with a run scored. On the mound, Adam Niemeyer received the loss to drop to 2-3, while Cole Bellair earned the win to improve to 2-2.
