The Buckeyes hosted the Illinois Fighting Illini last weekend at Bill Davis Stadium and took 2 of 3.
Bucks lose Game 1 9-2
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State baseball team dropped its opener to Illinois, 9-2, Friday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes fall to 23-13, 7-6 in conference play, while Illinois moves to 24-10, 6-4 in the Big Ten.
Illinois threatened against Ohio State starter Jaron Long in the top of the second. Jordan Parr led off the inning with a single up the middle and, after a fly out to right by Brandon Hohl, stole second and advanced to third when the throw got into center field. However, Long responded by striking out David Kerian looking on a 10-pitch at-bat and got Reid Roper to pop out to short to end the inning.
The Illini then took the lead with a four-run fourth. Michael Hurwitz singled to center to lead off the inning and a walk by Justin Parr put runners on first and second with nobody out. Jordan Parr followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and Hohl doubled into right-center to plate a pair of runs. Kerian then singled to left to score Hohl and the Illini first baseman advanced to second on the throw home. Roper followed with a triple off the wall in right-center, plating Kerian and giving the Illini the 4-0 lead
