Illinois recruiting has been, in a word, spectacular!
Maybe too spectacular.

Do we want to start a Illinois Recruiting Investigation Pool?
I say, the Big Ten starts sniffing around this summer!

I know that the Domers are very upset about what Zook is doing.

Illini coach defends tactics of staff: No skeletons in our closet
December 15, 2006

Illinois coach Ron Zook dared to cross party lines when he voted Florida ahead of Big Ten foe Michigan in the final USA Today poll. Dozens of angry Michigan fans e-mailed him to complain.

"I took a lot of abuse," he says.

It might be a preview of what's to come if Zook and his staff beat perennial powers such as Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame on the recruiting trail.

This whole thing makes me wish we would have pasted them by about 40 instead of squeeking out that conservative W.

It will be interesting to see if this team does anything with all these top notch recruits. The Zooker hasn't done much with a load of talent in the past, so we'll see. It's odd how all of a sudden, everyone wants to go to Illinois isn't it? When did Champaign become sexy town? I don't get it AT ALL. 2 W's are 2 W's.

What will be the fall out of his recruiting style in the Big Ten?

Will coaches adopt a similar style?

Will teams/coaches run it up on them to make a point?

Zook can offer immediate playing time and the promise of being an up and coming program/return to glory thing...circa Iowa 2 years ago, PSU last year, Georgia Tech this year. However, just like NCSU found out, that promise wears thin once coaching deficiencies are exposed.

RZ will will shine for a while...then likely flame out quickly.

Either way I like that Illinois is recruiting well...For one they take away from Michigan, Notre Dame, and Iowa...but mroe importantly in the past few years we have had some terrible teams in the big 10...between MSU who has been bad in the past (this will all change with Dantonio) and Northwestern who is doing alright and Illinois doing the big things they are doing now...overall I think the big 10 will be up over the next couple years which is a very good thing

It'd be great to see the Illibuck trophy take on significance once more....

I think the Zooker's got some fight in him. Not to mention home-state access to some decent recruiting (remember, home state means less expensive--important when your team's on a budget)

Big Ten uber alles

Heck, I'm glad to see the 'Zookster' recruit well, even though it costs the Buckeyes a couple of recruits. I'd like to see Notre Dame get squeezed so hard that they only recruit in the SEC and Big 12 and ACC areas. (and Michigan also.....)

In reality, I truly believe that the Big Ten needs to get stronger from mid-top to bottom. The top one, two or three places are always strong, but the mid-levels and especially lower levels get clobbered in the inter-conference and bowl games. I relish the year the Big Ten went 7-0 in the bowl games (2002 ?), with the 'well, I guess the B10 was pretty strong after all' quotes from the talking heads on TV.

Why do y'all think the SEC is rated so high? Speed? Nope. Competitive teams from top to bottom. We got whomped twice by SOUTH CAROLINA in bowl games. Oh the shame of it all.........people grit their teeth when the B10 tees it up against a Tennessee in the Citrus.....

Just my opinion, FWIW, but having about 60% of the nation's population within the B10 ' borders' indicates to me that we should have some pretty good teams, year in and year out. I feel blessed that I'm a Buckeye, and we're one of those teams. I'd hate to be one of those teams that waits every four years or so for a 'good one' and challenge for the title......

Great job Ron! Keep it up. Mason, Terry, Pat, Kurt, Mark, join the crowd and build up the programs to an always competitive level. Let's make the Big Ten the best.....
