Freshman Arrelious Benn charges up field after hauling in a pass from Juice Williams.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illini football fans saw the future of the program on the second play of the Orange and Blue spring game Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Juice Williams completed a pass over the middle to freshman wide receiver Arrelious Benn, who turned the play into a 64-yard gain. In a spring game pitting the offense vs. the defense with an unconventional point system, Williams and Benn put up big numbers.

"The Juice to Rejus connection is something that you're going to hear (about) a lot," Williams said. "He's the type of guy who makes something out of nothing. It's great. It's hard to describe."

Turnovers killed them.

Yep. They were tied with North Texas for 117th in turnover margin (-1.25 per game)...only Army with a -1.50 per game turnover margin was worse.

Conversely, we were tied for 13th with a +.69 per game turnover margin (tied with Texas, Texas A&M, and San Jose State).

Illinois coach takes risk at quarterback Rotating position could affect stability of team
By George M. Thomas Beacon Journal sportswriter

Illinois Fighting Illini coach Ron Zook might have made his job more difficult with last week's loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
With his offense struggling under quarterback Isaiah ''Juice'' Williams, he turned to redshirt freshman Eddie McGhee. McGhee got into the game and eventually threw an 80-yard touchdown pass that would have won the game had it not been called back because of a penalty. That moment alone is enough to make tongues wag in Champaign, Ill.

That they did...but depending on the outcome of this weekend it could still be the game of the year in the big 10...

Even if Illinois beats Michigan, if we indeed beat Illinois and face a Michigan team that has only that Illinois loss in the conference, it'll still be the game of the year in the conference (in addition to it simply being The Game).

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ? Each remaining game for Ohio State is critical for its Big Ten and national title hopes, but fans probably will have to hop to their nearest sports pub to see the team face Illinois on Nov. 10.
Steve Snapp, OSU's associate athletic director for broadcast services, said he's "99.9 percent sure" the clash with the Illini will be shown on the Big Ten Network, which isn't available to basic-cable subscribers in the Miami Valley.
