Mick Walker believes Ohio State and ND are battling at the top for Brayden Parks after his visit this past weekend.

Not to be a downer, but personally I’d be surprised if he doesn’t go to ND. He’s long been the top DT on their board. His uncle played RB there and his godfather is former legendary ND player Chris Zorich. He visited for the TX game, and we’ve offered 7 more DT’s since Sunday.

Legacies are hard to shift away from their own hallowed ground. Someone scratched deep to find the connection to Zorich. Maybe tOSU pushes the 'set your own legacy' at him? I mean the above, except when it comes to tOSU legacies......

Notre Dame, Oregon trending for a major recruit who canceled a visit to Ohio State

Ohio State was expected to have a pair of elite defensive tackle recruits in town this weekend, but five-star Sierra Canyon (DL) Marcus Fakatou is the only one who will be in Columbus. The Buckeyes had planned to have Brother Rice (Ill) DL Brayden Parks in for an official, but the visit has been canceled, according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.

Parks’ only two visits set to happen this summer are now to Notre Dame on June 12, then Oregon on June 19. Ohio State was set to be the biggest contender to land the 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive lineman over Notre Dame and Oregon. Notre Dame has been seen as the favorite to bring in a player who isn’t far at all from then, but the latest buzz has Oregon rising in his recruitment.

Is anyone as surprised as I am? A good midwestern boy, saying no thanks to the Buckeyes? Don't believe (but also don't KNOW) that the two-deep at either of those schools is any better/worse for him than the others. Can anyone drill a bit deeper on this? A free trip, with all the trimmings, to Buckeye-land is a hard thing to pass up, but either he did, or tOSU feels good enough about Fakatou to discourage him. Recruiting is still a very baffling business, that simply has to be experienced, not understood. Thanks in advance, Go Bucks!

OSU is favored to land possibly the #2 and #5 DTs in 2027. This kid is seen as an afterthought. LJsr is cooking if he can land 1 of them, but also throw in that OH DL, Reynaldo Perez is also a serious consideration in the class as the 2 or 3rd DT, and OSU is still in a good spot at DT

Sorry, with the potential to land an uber class at DT feels a bit strange to me. We've had depth, certainly, but DEPTH in the recruiting ranks is a bit overwhelming. Sure, I get that recruiting is a very strange animal, and it ain't over till it's over is the watchword(s). And in this day of information overload, am certain that this recruit (as well as all the rest) are keeping up with current depth chart, and with recruiting potential, as well as rumors or even phone calls to other players - as in 'you feeling the Buckeyes'? etc. On one hand, feel sorry he's not even going to visit, but on the other hand, maybe he (?) has insight as to where these kids might land? Oh well, sometimes I get tangled up with potential outcomes.

DT recruiting as a whole has lagged for the majority of my days following recruiting for whatever reason. Sure we've had some individual studs, but the units as a whole haven't been great many years. I'm a broken record here, but championship teams have dominant DTs almost without exception (and DL as a whole really). So this class needs to step it up. Parks seems like a long shot, so we're probably looking elsewhere.

Notre Dame football’s biggest remaining hurdle in landing 4-star DT Brayden Parks is something no one expected

Notre Dame continues to push hard for 4-star DT Brayden Parks, but Oregon remains in the recruitment. What is the hold-up?

Notre Dame football and head coach Marcus Freeman have prioritized 2027 defensive tackle Brayden Parks out of Chicago’s Brother Rice for a long time. The Fighting Irish have deep ties to the talented interior defensive lineman, and feedback from South Bend remains positive.

But a conversation with someone very close to Parks revealed a layer to this recruitment that has kept the decision from being a formality. The very thing that should make Notre Dame the obvious choice has actually been the one factor complicating this process.

Parks, a 6-foot-2, 310-pound defender with tremendous untapped potential, has connections to the Notre Dame program that run deep. His godfather is legendary Notre Dame defensive lineman Chris Zorich. He has a cousin in Tony Jones Jr., the talented running back who suited up for the Irish in the late 2010s. He trains with former Notre Dame linebacker Kerry Neal. He plays his high school football 90 minutes from South Bend and has visited campus countless times.

On the surface, this is as natural a fit as you will find in college football recruiting.

Why the close ties have been a double-edged sword

From everything I have gathered, the intimate familiarity Parks has with Notre Dame has actually created an internal tug-of-war. According to a source close to Parks, the question he has been wrestling with is straightforward: does he want to continue the family legacy and be a part of the program he already knows inside and out, or does he want to forge his own path?

Going to Notre Dame would be the easy decision for Parks. He knows the program, the staff, and the culture. But “easy” and “right” are not always the same thing in the mind of a teenager trying to make the biggest decision of his life. Parks has wanted to make sure that choosing Notre Dame is his decision, not just the decision his family and the people around him would make for him.

That desire for personal ownership of the choice has been the reason this recruitment has taken as long as it has.

Oregon’s role in the recruitment

This recruitment has been a Notre Dame versus Oregon battle throughout, and the Ducks deserve credit for keeping themselves firmly in the conversation. Every time Oregon has taken the lead, Notre Dame has countered and seemingly regained the top spot. Head coach Dan Lanning and his staff have pulled out all the stops to show Parks that he is a priority for the Oregon program.

When Parks took his official visit to Eugene, the Ducks made it clear that money is no object and his spot on their priority list is firm. That effort has given Parks a legitimate alternative to weigh against the Irish, and it has been a meaningful part of his decision-making process.

Where things stand right now

As of today, I like where Notre Dame is in this recruitment. The feedback from the Notre Dame side continues to be positive, and I believe the Fighting Irish end up landing Parks. But the reason some have not felt completely settled about this outcome is the reality that Parks might just know Notre Dame a little too well.

He has wanted the time to soul-search and confirm that South Bend is the right fit for him as an individual.

If Parks commits to Notre Dame, it will not be a Chris Zorich decision. It will not be a Tony Jones Jr. decision. It will not be his family’s decision. It will be a Brayden Parks decision.

Just sayin': It sounds like ND and Oregon are in a NIL bidding war for this recruit.....
