Jim Walden

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jim Walden (born ca. 1938 in Aberdeen, Mississippi) was the head football coach at Washington State University from 1978 to 1986. During his tenure there, he compiled a 44-52-4 record. At Washington State, he coached the 1981 team to the school's first bowl appearance in 51 years. At one point he had also won three of the last five Apple Cups against the University of Washington. In 1981, he also earned the title of Pac Ten Coach of the Year. He also served as the head coach at Iowa State University where he compiled a 28-57-3 record. Since retiring from Iowa State, Walden served as a radio color commentator, first for the Iowa Barnstormers of Arena Football and later for Washington State football. He still hosts a Sunday evening radio show in Iowa on WHO called "Two Guys Named Mo And Ron."

Mr. Walden was a Harris Poll voter for the 2006 NCAA Division I-A football season. Mr. Walden earned notoriety among sports fans by ranking Florida Gators #1 in the final Harris poll on December 3, 2006, above undefeated Ohio State.[1]

scUM had one impressive win: Wisconsin on the road. I can't believe people are still claiming scUM did anything special by beating ND. How many times does ND have to get expossed before people accept ND is not a top tier program right now?

Florida beating LSU is the most impressive win by either team. Tennessee, on the road, is also a very tough one. Florida beat their rival (FSU - on the road) and beat a top ten team (Arkansas) on a neutral site to win their conference championship. South Carolina and Georgia are also strong teams which Florida beat.

scUM needed a drive against a prevent defense, in the last 2 minutes to get within 10 points of Ohio State. Only Ohio State turnovers kept scUM in the game. There was nothing I saw in this game to make me think Ohio State wouldn't win the rematch. scUM had three chances to solve the Troy Smith riddle and failed miserably on all three.

If Florida would have lost to Arkansas, scUM goes to the title game by default. But with the win, no question Florida deserves a shot. scUM had their chance and lost. End of story.

Wisconsin actually visited Ann Arbor in that game. But how goos of a win was it, beause who did Wisconsin beat? Their best win is 13-3 over Penn State in Madison.
