I'm not sure what scares me most the Mayors reaction or the Manager of the Wendys.
Reason restaurant was smoky: It was on fire
MEMPHIS, Tenn. A Tennessee official says the people at a Wendy's were very polite when he complained about the restaurant being smoky -- right up to when they ordered everyone out.
It turned out the restaurant was on fire.
Shelby County Mayor A-C Wharton was visiting the restaurant with his wife Ruby and about ten Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
The mayor says he complained about the smoke when he placed his order, complained twice more to restaurant employees and called Wendy's corporate offices in Georgia.
Wharton says everyone he talked to was very polite -- they just didn't do anything about it.
Manager Ann Walker says she thought the grill was just unusually smoky yesterday afternoon. Then she realized the grease was on fire and ordered the building evacuated.
