Hypothetical: Drop a team from your conference!

Michigan State.

All other Big 10 schools are to some degree flagship universities for their states. Sure, Illinois has Illinois and NW and Indiana has Purdue and Indiana, but all those schools have some purpose in their states. Michigan STate has no purpose other than to take students/athletes not good enough to get into UM. The state revolves around UM. Michigan STate could disappear and nobody would really care.

So you are a scUM fan I see. That didn't take long. Enjoy the rubies.

I say we pass a rule that any B10 team that loses to a 3 win MAC team has to leave. Which team from the state up north does that eliminate?

I think the Big Ten is unique as a conference in that there is no school that is clearly "out of its league." Only Northwestern seems a bit at odds given its size and private-school status, yet it's competitive athletically with the rest of the league.

Vanderbilt in the SEC is like an English nobleman at a tractor pull. Arizona and ASU in the Pacific 10 - well, Columbus is as close to the Atlantic Ocean as Tucson is to the Pacific. Marquette, DePaul and Notre Dame in the Big "East?" Get real. And the presence of Boston College in the ACC continues to be a head-scratcher.

George W. Bush spoke at OSU. Obama spoke at UM.

Will a President ever speak at MSU? If they did, would anybody pay attention?

MSU has the least academic cred of any Big 10 school...and it isn't even close. For that reason alone, they would be the first to leave if we ever "contracted"

Are you really on an OSU board trying to play the little brother argument?

They haven't embarrassed the B10 with losses to a MAC school or 1AA school lately. They have one of the best basketball programs in the country and last time I checked scUM, not MSU, was under NCAA investigation.

Sell your scUM spin elsewhere, no one here is buying.

How is PSU different academically?

I vote to drop Michigan State. I can't think of many benefits from them other than a strong men's basketball team.

That's like the SEC kicking out Kentucky. Voting to kick out the conferences flagship program in one of the two major revenue sports doesn't seem like an overly well thought out idea to me.

It depends on what our aims are. If this is purely for athletics and resulting tv exposure, then I am inclined to agree that I would keep MSU.

But on academics, and this is from where I am coming... MSU brings up the rear of the Big 10 in many academic rankings. So they got my vote.

Don't Minnesota and Indiana lose to crappy MAC teams all the time? Both have been under NCAA investigation recently as well. Heck, MSU lost to a MAC school last year.

OK, so you really think the Big 10 would be a better conference if we got rid of UM? Yeah, thought so.

UM has academic and money cred. MSU has NEITHER. Nobody would care one bit if MSU left the conference.

You are comparing UK to MSU in regards to basketball? One has won a few titles. The other is a basketball legend.

THe comparison is not even close.
