How to find a roommate?

Just curious how some of you went about finding a roommate when you had your own apartment. I've found a number of online roommate sites, but most of them want you to pay before letting you contact each other.

Any advice you can give would be great.

On the off chance that you know someone, here is the apartment ($300 each)

I haven't actually moved in yet, so if anyone has an apartment that needs a roomie, that could be a possibility too.

Josh,
I'm not sure how old you are but I found that the Lantern worked really well for me two years ago when I had one of my roomates move out and we needed another. We got tons of replys to the ad and although some were wierdos, some were just good down to earth people. Once again I don't know what age group you're looking for here and for my being a senior at tOSU i found this to work well. I also found a subleasee for my apartment this summer in a matter of days. I am pretty sure you can list apartments from elsewhere in the city as well. Hope maybe this can help you

I am not sure about the best place to find a roomate, but I did click on your link just to see what a $600 apartment looked like these days. If I was to give you one bit of advice on moving in with someone you do not know very well, it would be spend the extra 25 each and get one with 2 bathrooms instead of one. Bathroom etiquette probably causes more problems with roomates than any other issue, except maybe dirty dishes. If you each have your own bathroom, nobody gets pissed when you both have to get ready for work, or school at the same time, or someone is trying to take a leisurely dump and read the paper, or one person ends up having to clean it all the time. For me, it would be worth 25 bucks to have my own bathroom.

From what I hear, this place may be a good source for you to find a roomate:

I'd find a short lease, live alone, and wait until I met some people through work or other friends.
I think this is the way I want to go... especially b/c this is an excellent deal on an apartment all-around. I'm getting the 2 bed 1 bath for 575, so it would be 75 more a month.

Great call on the lantern, I will look into that.

BNasty, you homo :)

If you're gonna put out an add, use exacting words:

NEEDED: Roomate. Must be hot chick who is in to constant sex, without any strings. I'm not kidding, I just wanna ball. Prefer Playboy model type, but will consider "Juggs" or "Swank" calibur gals. I don't want to pay rent, or cook, or clean. Be prepared to pick up my slack.

Try Craigslist: http://columbus.craigslist.org/

People use it here in Boston all the time, but I'm not sure if it's used much in C-bus.
OSUsushichic,
I just noticed your avatar... wanna shack up?
