I suppose it's like this every year, but the degree of crash-and-burn of big-time programs this season seems to me to be unusual.
5. VaTech: Hate to see the Hokies struggle like this after the tragedy their student body has had to endure; on the other hand, ThugU is getting a bit of a deserved comeuppance. Hope the Vick Brothers are enjoying their season.
4. Miami: After seeing all the journalistic hummers given to Randy Shannon (about one step away from being a convicted felon himself), it's refreshing to see his team get punked by the Sooners. Shannon is a media creation who was not ready for prime time.
3. Auburn: OK, so a top-15 team getting beaten by South Florida is maybe not as embarrassing as losing to a 1-AA team when you're top-5. But it's still pretty embarrassing.
2. Notre Dame: The only thing more obnoxious than a Notre Dame fan (those who have no real connection to the school other than they can take communion along with the Pope) is the big fat egomaniac who is the head coach. All the above get an embarrassing beat-down. I love it.
1. Michigan: I really respect Llllllllloyd Carr. I really do. He is a fine human being who cares deeply about his players and does things the right way. Except, lately he does those things pretty ineptly. And the full-of-themselves "Michigan Men" who populate the football team (who are so arrogant they expect to win just by showing up) are getting their well-deserved comeuppance. YES!!!!!!!!! (Maybe they will actually start taking seriously the need for conditioning and the need to compete every down. I hope it starts just in time for their bowl game.)
