The World's Favorite Hobo
We're adopting a family for Christmas this year, first year we have the extra cash to. My wife wants to go all out because her Mother was and is a piece of shit and she never really had Christmas except for one year when they were adopted by another family. Though my wife wants to do even more and invite them to our Christmas dinner, help out the kids when they need it, etc etc (their homeless)
How much is too much though? I don't want to be an enabler for these folks and have them sell the stuff we buy. Most, but not all folks are poor for a reason and the people themselves need to fix their problems, I don't personally know their situation. At the same time it must suck to not have Christmas morning where you open gifts or even have a place to stay.

I should start another thread about who has the worst mother in law.

Can anyone beat this?

Former Crack and Meth Head
Former Alcoholic
Steal from her kids
Yelled at me for grabbing her dog by the throat that nipped our 6 week old baby
Former Whore, Fugly with no teeth
Wrote bad checks and took out credit cards in my wifes name, never told us. We learned when we checked the wifes credit report.
I could go on and on, can anyone can top these?

Nope, can't top it.

Sounds like a real dumpster slut.

Thump,

Is your district going to go head with the 403b Roth?

The only one that I know for sure will have it about half way through the year is Columbus. We're all set up and ready to go with it but Districts are not enthusiastic about the extra payroll work.

Wow that sucks. My fiance's family are all easy to get along with and good people except for her Uncle who scammed his dad's credit, but they don't talk to him anymore. At least your side of the family is better than your MiL. Your dad seemed like a nice guy when I met him.

We do not have it as of yet and haven't heard any rumblings of such.

Damn-it's amazing she was able to produce a seemingly normal, responsible citizen of a child-your wife.
Honestly, as far as the adopting thing goes, I would say a Christmas dinner w/ all the trimmings, some stuff for the kids, and maybe a sweatshirt or something for the adults would be appropriate-that's what the various holiday drives like this I have been involved in would entail.
I'd be leery of establishing-or giving the impression of wanting to establish a relationship w/ this family-as you say, people usually aren't poor and homeless for 100% innocent reasons.

We sent out info to the treasurers on it and I'm not sure if we got anything back from yours. We have a guy that's supposed to be working there, I'll ask what's going on this Friday when I see him. Thus far no other company is on top of this or the new regs that aren't coming out yet.
It's funny how people say "WHOA THERE, that's going to be a lot of extra work for ME, no thanks"

On a side note, if anyone is looking for a job I/We are looking for good honest folks. I can promise an interview, financial services and it's' with a fucking awesome company. My benefits are incredible, and my job is great.

Box - That is very kind of you helping the family. We have never adopted a whole family so I have no specific advice for you. The only thing I can add is you may want to see what kind of assistance you can provide after the holidays. I'm not talking financial assistance either. I equate it to food kitchens that always have more than enough volunteers during the holidays but need help the rest of the year.

You win on the MiL stories. LoKY and I were going head-to-head in a previous in-law thread, but you have us beat.

Willie, it's great that you are helping. Kudos to you. But, I would avoid having them over to your house. I say do all you can for them, but you want to be able to back away if need be...and you can't do that if they know where you live.
