How much can/could you bench press back in the day?

LOTS.. us fire hydrants are made for it.. 2 reps @ 400 .. just 2-3 years ago .. stayed there for a good 4 mths.. and I'm older than dirt
pinched a nerve in my neck doing it... shelved me for 6 mths... and I feel a tinge any time I exceed 250 now... that was bad stuff

Best "legal" lift was 340 back around 2000 when I was about 190 (I'm 225 now, my fat ass). I got 355 up once during that period, but I arched my back like an aqueduct. I can't even approach 300 right now...but I'll get back into it after my triathlon in July.

big lesson...
at really heavy weight... one rep with bad form... you could be screwed
and if you're old... outta commission for a long time.. voice of experience

note to myself
stay with the pink weights and do lots of reps..
stay away from the young bucks..
forget about keeping up with your college son...
let it goooooo

Mili, you don't do a lot of maxxing out do you to get into shape for your triathlon? I figured you do lower weights at higer reps so you're somewhat lean.

How many months ahead do you start training and what is your weakest of the three events?

It used to be about 13 inches but after some severe shrinkage in the pool it's about 11 inches now. Oh wait we're talking about benching, not dick size. My bad. :biggrin:
