Rare...on the rare occasion I have steak.

I stick to chicken for the most part.

Medium. My dad gets his very rare, and I can't stand it one bit. I'm not a very picky eater, but in order for me to have a perfect steak I always need it to be cooked medium.

when I'm feeling a little adventurous, ill go for medium/ medium rare. I have no interest in eating a steak any less cooked than that.

Well in that case, I'm fucking certifiable.

Obviously, if we're talking about a not-so-choice cut of meat, I'll go for a little closer to medium rare. But a filet? Or prime rib? There had better be blood at the bottom to dip my potatoes in. It's an irrefutable fact that the flavor of beef comes from the blood. Now, clearly, it's entirely reasonable for people to prefer their steak more thoroughly cooked, but at that point, you're after the taste of the char, not the meat itself.

I used to waitress with a girl who would insist they cook her steak only 10 seconds per side. Not sure what good that could have done. The manager eventully gave in, but made her write out a release letter and go back into the offices to eat it. Probably more of an attention issue than a food preference, though. But definitely nasty.

Years ago my wife and I went to a Club Med in the Bahamas. One night for supper they had a choice of chicken, fish, or steak tartar. I told my wife "Let's order the steak tartar and if we don't like the tartar sauce we can just scrape it off". Big mistake!!!
