Houston Texans RB Ryan Moats

Merih

GO BUCKS!
  • What a story:
FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Cop prevented RB from being with dying relative

The basic gist is that Moats and his wife were rushing to the hospital because her mother, his mother-in-law, slipped into critical condition and was about to die due to complications from breast cancer. Understandably, they were speeding and I believe stopped at a red light. He checked both ways for cross traffic then ran the red...ended up getting pulled over in the hospital parking lot. The officer would not let them in to see the patient (however his wife broke free and ran inside to be with her mother). His mother-in-law passed away as he was in the parking lot being detained by the police. All this hangup because: in the rush he couldn't find his insurance papers and without that the cop was not allowed to let him leave the vehicle. A shame, and on a technicality as well.

By stepmother, I assume you mean mother-in-law.

Although it does make the story a bit more interesting.

FI, and that was the nicest way I could put it.

That too... the guys car, plates, license, and everything is there if you REALLY want to check it that hard. That's terrible man... I used to live in Dallas and the police near Baylor Medical just lurk for expensive cars like that.

And yes I did mean mother-in-law.

I think it's pretty easy to read through the lines here.

that cop should be fired....what an absolute asshole.

He stopped at the red light, made sure he wasn't going to impede traffic, and turned into the hospital. He tells the cop upwards of 10 times his mother-in-law is dying, at least his wife and relative just ignore dthe officer and went in.

Then staff comes out, tells the officer the situation, and he has the audacity to say "all you had to do was explain the situation".

Ryan should have jacked him in his mouth. Again, that cop should be fired. Clearly stereotyped Ryan, thought he was lying, and acted like prick until staff came out. What a frustrating thing to watch....

with apologies to Buckin A, that POS needs to be fired. That guy gives all of the good cops bad names by his being an asshole.

Let us all be glad that he didn't shoot Moats' wife and her aunt just to complete his stupidity.

It would be interesting to know what the maximum penalty for this is. My guess is that the collective bargaining agreement with the Dallas Paternal Order Of Police won't allow them to fire him; especially if this is his first offense. :(

Likely not, but if the PR from this gets bad enough and if the race card really gets played, I wonder if they'll stick by him or not....

theissue to me is the absolute lack of regard the officer had for Ryan Moats story. He 100% thught he was bullshitting and as such, treated him like a POS.

The cop sang a different tune, and played Mr. Sensitive as soon as medical personell came out to explain the severity of his Mother-in-law. "All you had to do was espalin the situation."

It was rather obvious the officer knew he was on tape, likely his own squad car?, and switched it up to look reasonable.

I think it's an utter lack of common sense, and doing the oublic an injustice. Hey cop, he pulled into a hospital, and is willing to go inside, and leave his vehicle in front of the hospital doors. Maybe you could walk in with him and figure it out from there? Just an idea.

Irrational/people who know the right thing to do but don't, just piss me off.

I hope this officer is relieved of his duties. That or a close relative goes deathly ill and he is pulled over on the way to the hospital and the on duty officer refuses to let him proceed (not really, but you get my point).

The story is picking up some steam now, I saw it reported on the Today show I believe. After watching the video again, that cop has got to be fired. He drew a gun as means of intimidation, not protection. In front of a hospital no less.

    Bravo DPD
