  • So, the wife and I are taking a two week vacation in a few weeks and have decided to 'hire' a house sitter for one of the weeks we'll be gone. We found someone to take our dog for the second week, so we won't need anyone to stay at the house for that time. A girl I work with has agreed to do it (she's house sat for family friends in the past) and when I asked what her rate was she said 'whatever you think is fair'.

We have one dog and one cat. What do you think an appropriate fee would be for house sitting for 8 nights?

    I'll do it for free.

Since it's your co-worker, I assume she works during the day like you and that the only time she'll be at your house is after work (i.e., not an all-day thing). So essentially she'll be living at your place, eating your food and using your utilities. The only "job" she'll be doing is feeding the pets and taking them out for an evening walk so they can do their business (well, maybe the cat uses a litter box, so...). I'd give a C-note and let eat and drink anything your have in the house, along with letting her do her laundry at your place.
