I'm with you. The word was hardly ever used before 9/11, and after it was appropriately used for that day, it has now become popular to use it to describe ankle sprains and traffic jams.

I don't think I've ever used it.

BTW, if 'terror' is like 'horror', and 'terrible' is like 'horrible', why does 'terrific' mean great when the other word means just the opposite?

I had to call it the 'other word' in order to not be accused of using it. :wink2:

I am, and have been, far more concerned with the rampant and incessant use of the word "like" by our nations teen population. It has to stop.

example:

Parent: "How was you day?" Teen: "Oh, I was at the mall and it was like crazy busy. So, I called Tina, who was like 'NO WAY'! and I was like 'Totally'. So we were like forget this, and, like...."

I encourage parents to begin a "Like Jar." It would work the same as a swear jar. Every time a parent observes an inappropriate use of the word "like" a predetermined amount of change would go in the jar.

Please, the cause is too great to ignore.
