Hornets-Spurs second-round series

It is hard not to go with the Spurs, but the Hornets do have some guys that match up better with SA than the Suns...

West can match Duncan's athleticism and Paul/Parker should be the best matchup we will see in terms of PGs...

PeJa will be a tough matchup for Manu or Bowen...

The Hornets also got Chandler who the Spurs might not have anyone for...

Think that this will be a great series...See it going 7, just not sure who is going to win...

West scores 30 and Hornets take Game 1 from Spurs, 101-82

NEW ORLEANS - David West scored a career playoff-high 30 points to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 101-82 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series Saturday night.

Chris Paul added 17 points, 13 assists and four steals for New Orleans, which trailed by as much as 11 in the first half but stormed into the lead for good in the third quarter.

Tim Duncan had a rare terrible night, going 1-of-9 from the field for a career playoff-low five points and only three rebounds.

Contd...

Great win for the Hornets in game 1...We will see if they can keep Duncan down all series...

The way it's looking, I don't see how they have an answer for Chris Paul. The Lakers put Sasha on him when we played on the regular season in hopes it would annoy him enough to back away and pass to someone else. The problem is, I don't think the Spurs have someone that annoying, not to mention, I don't know if that would work in a 7 game series. The Spurs are in trouble, they look slow and old out there, granted, they have never really been a high scoring team, but compared to NO they look like they are playing in slow motion.

I do look for a rebound in San Antonio, but unless they get some serious momentum in this series they are going to have some SERIOUS issues.

I agree...They are going to have to win both of the games in SA to really have a fighters chance...The Hornets are playing well so far, and so far the Spurs aren't playing great...

The Spurs are the team you don't count out till the end tho...

Yeah, I am not about to discount a 4-time champion team, but from what I have seen, they look really slow in comparison.

I think Bruce Bowen would qualify. Whether he can stay in front of Paul often enough is another story, though. :wink2:

Paul/Parker is one of the best pg battles ever...It is kinda crazy that we forget that the best PF is playing in this series, due to how good that battle is...

Paul has been unreal, but so has Parker, and Parker has had a little bit more help tonight...

Horry is such a thug.

Disagree...He gets a bad rap for some things...But really as Tibor will tell us, Nash made the situation worse than what is was last year, and that was nothing but a hard screen he set on West...He was setting that screen with intention to hurt someone...The same way that the playoff fouls are not out there to hurt someone...It was West or his teammates fault for no one letting him know it was coming, as he hit the screen with his back...

It is no different than and hard screen in the backcourt or up top when the defender of the screener doesn't let the guy getting screened know it is coming...

Yeah it sucks as West is one of the best players, but I get sick of the pussy attitude that some people seem to have about these fouls, and I will be the first to tell you as a huge huge LBJ fan that he crys about some of the shit to much and acts a little too much...

The pussification of the NBA is hurting its image...These guys act like teenage girls out there sometimes...I wish when a guy was hit he would get up in someones face, or get that pissed off attitude and just take over and let the game speak in terms of don't foul me like that or I am going to go off on your ass and let my game do the talking...That is what gains respect...That is what Jordan did...Guys learned not to foul him hard or the game was about to be over...Same with Reggie Miller...Piss him off and he would go for 40 on you...

Sorry for the rant...

At the time I saw the play, I was like "shit happens, sucks to be him" but after seeing the replay a few times, I have to disagree. Horry set his foot and drove into Wests back, hey, the guy was a Laker during our three-peat, and we said "he does the dirty work." So, it's nothing new, but it's his game, call it "blue collar" or whatever, but as best I can tell, he goes out there and hopes to get a trade like last year, he gets 2 games and a star or two are out.
