Honduras +0.5 at USA (Gold Cup, 9 ET, FSC)

I think Feilhaber is the only man on this roster who will think about playing a thru ball. Unfortunately it takes at least one other player to find the other end of one of those, so they'll just be content to carry it up the wing and make low-percentage crosses.

As I write that, GOAL!!!

Quaranta from Davies & Feilhaber (go figure) and NOT from a long cross from the wing.

Quoted from rep:

God I hate that guy... well, not him, but the temptation he give Bradley to deploy him as Brian McBride-lite. I liked the 4-4-2 in Confed, dunno if Davies is the other Fwd... but I know Ching isn't.

I don't think he is even McBride-lite. That sells short McBride. Ching does one thing decent - scoring on headers. Even then, it better be a perfect ball. The guy's a statue. I don't think I've ever seen him win a 50/50 ball. If the ball is at his feet, forget about your chances. While McBride couldn't create off the dribble he could at least settle the ball and get a respectable shot on goal if the ball didn't find his head.

Like you said, it's not fair to blame Ching or hate him - he is what he is. I just think his minutes would be better allocated with younger players with potential to develop into something more.

I'm just gonna add my comments from tonight's USA-Haiti match here. I don't think it needs its own thread.

USA just came out of the half with a 1-0 lead, and promptly gave up two goals as many minutes. I realize that this is pretty much the US D-squad in a match that doesn't really matter that much. There are four players out there earning their first cap I think I heard them say. Still, don't they still teach you not to try to clear a ball to the center of the pitch?

Not really for the US, but he starts for the MLS club New England Revolution, ironically, the Revs home stadium is the one their playing in tonight in Foxboro.

He's exactly the type of guy they needed against Brazil..someone who has confidence with the ball on their foot. He controls the game very well from his spot. He needs more looks....
