Hollywood, out of ideas

Sony has hired 300 screenwriter Michael Gordon to pen an adaptation of the popular online role-playing game EverQuest. Former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad is producing the flick for Columbia Pictures.

Released on March 16, 1999, EverQuest became the most popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) before World of Warcraft took over the universe. At its peak, EverQuest had more than 450,000 paying subscribers.

According to Variety, the long-rumored Land of the Lost movie adaptation with Will Ferrell has finally been given the greenlight by Universal - with a $100 million dollar budget.

Created by the great Sid and Marty Krofft, the show followed the adventures of a father, son, and daughter who become trapped on an alien world inexplicably filled with stop-motion dinosaurs, cavemen, and strange (poorly realized), aggressive alien creatures called Sleestaks

WB restarts 'Terminator'

'Salvation' begins production in early 2008

Warner Bros. has acquired North American distrib rights to "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," triggering an early 2008 production start for a film that seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-pic span.

WB plans to distribute "Terminator Salvation" in summer 2009.

A screenplay has been completed by "Terminator 3" scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and the financiers and studio are close to locking a director. While industry buzz has "Charlie's Angels" director McG as the odds-on favorite for the assignment, the producers said no final decision had yet been made.

This past April DreamWorks unleashed their quasi-Rear Window remake Disturbia, which starred teen heartthrob Shia LaBeouf. Before even heading to DVD the movie took in an insane $115 million worldwide theatrical. We received word this morning that a sequel to the film is now being worked on, no word on who's attached to write. In the first LaBeouf plays a teen serving a home-detention sentence. He begins to observe a neighbor and suspects the man is a serial killer. Morse plays the suspected murderer.

The IESB contacted a source over at New Line, the studio behind the film, and was able to confirm the story which is no longer a rumor but instead 100% fact. 'Inside' men resurrect Pinhead

Following the recent success of the "Halloween" remake, Dimension is moving ahead on reinventing "Hellraiser," setting Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo to write and direct the remake of one of horrormeister's Clive Barker's best-known creations.

Released in 1987, "Hellraiser" told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. The movie introduced viewers to a race of demons called Cenobites, most notably one nicknamed Pinhead -- who became one of the most enduring horror characters of the decade -- who was summoned using an antique puzzle box.

Wow. This is truly sad. I really liked Hellraiser. What else could you possibly do with this movie though? No matter the special effects, the story is the same. Person unleashes demons w/ puzzlebox, different person must find out way to stop demons, demons brutally kill several people along the way.
