Just starting to get into hiking. I was thinking about a GORUCK pack for its' durability but the price is pretty steep. Anyone have suggestions for a comparable pack that costs less? Thanks in advance!

Here's a good calculator to help you determine just how large of a pack you need. REI also has a nice guide on choosing features.
Quality brands include Arc'Teryx, Osprey, Gregory, Mountain Hardware, Granite Gear, Deuter,
If the 'ultra light' bug bites you then you might want to look into SMD and/or ULA.
The best thing to do is go to a good outdoor store that specializes in backpacking/hiking & try on a variety of packs from different manufacturers. Finding one that fits you perfectly is by far the most important step.
It durability is your #1 priority it is hard to go wrong with Arc'Teryx.
