Statistics show some high school students live it up on spring break

WASHINGTON It's no longer just college kids taking spring-break trips. It's high schoolers, too.

And that has some people worried.

John Walters is director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and he says about one in seven spring breakers are 18 or younger. It's an event associated with drugs, drinking and sex.

Walters says young people are under enormous peer pressure to have fun. He says a recent report a rise in the startup of bad habits during spring and summer. And cautions parents need to be aware of what their young people are up to.

The State Department tracks an upsurge in alcohol-related accidents, violent crimes, rapes and even deaths among American students on spring break.

Walters says surveys also show the students who stay out of trouble do so because they don't want to disappoint their parents.

Thank God I grew up in Daytona and didn't have to travel for a great Spring Break.

In Myrtle Beach, this has been going on for a good while, and is a pretty big problem. Last spring, the local rag ran a story on High Schoolers on spring break at a hotel, complete with pictures and names. Needless to say, Myrtle Beaches finest, or, at least their supervisors do read the paper, and, next day, searches, seizures and arrests followed, complete with pictures...

Just another case of adults wanting to be a friend to their children rather than a parent. It never hurt any of us to be told no or disciplined, I am sure it helped us in the grand schem of things. These are the same kids with vehicles parked in the HS lot that say H2, Lexus, Navigator, ect.

A bunch of the seniors at the HS I teach at all go down to Siesta Key for spring break. A lot of parents are down there as well, but it still gets stupid, from everything I hear.......

I went there a few years ago but not during Spring Break time but at the end of June and early July and must say that was one dirty down. I wasn't very impressed.

Plus, never seen so much "paid for puss" in my entire life.

People learn bad habits early. Kids keep getting more given to them.
Your going to pay for your 17-18 year old kid to go to Panama City to get stupid drunk and have unprotected sex?
