High School Tolerance Levels

I know in my middle school they had to go in our lockers and we could only go to our lockers before school, before lunch, after lunch and after school.

Same rule at my school. Only 4 times can you go to your locker, same times you mentioned. Bookbags are not allowed because of hiding weapons, and the main reason is b/c of student safety in case of a fire or tornado drill so kids don't trip over them.

so they are worried about people tripping on bookbags, but not a loose armful of items (books, notepads, folders, calculator, etc)?

First off, since when to you carry your books etc.. with you during a fire/tornado drill?

The bookbags don't fit in the desks so they are are put on the floor with the straps and bags sticking out in the walkways of students.

A good rule.

hopefully the fire doesn't come inbetween classes. I understand the rule, I just think that kids would manage to find their way around the bookbags. However, I suppose if ther are too many desks in the room and the rows are really tight, it might change things.

Not crazy sounding at all, it was (is?) a big problem last year at the high school. The changed policy is that you have to be drinking from the schools drink machines. You can't enforce that, but it does prevent brining in the large bottles from home that make vodka mixes easier.

"Don't smile until Christmas"

No doubt the soft drink companies are happy with that sweet-heart arrangement. Gee, I wonder why that policy exists - to get rid of vodka or to please the corporations giving the schools money? :roll1:

The school doesn't sell soft-drinks (only water... which also helps cut down on vodka mixing) and the vending machines are by "Nobesity" which is nothing but health foods.

Plus the school receives so much donation money, that i doubt the vending machine cash is the real reason behind it.

I am at a Catholic school, so things are a little bit different. If I hear a kid drop an f-bomb talking to another kid in class, after the lesson is over-which is rare, I will make them write long sentences-just like in grade school. If they don't do the sentences, they get 3 demerits-you get a Saturday school for 10 demerits. If a football player cusses in practice, they do hit its-sort of like a clap push up, but their chest has to touch the ground.
They kids know if they act stupid in class there will be hell to pay, but generally, I am one of the more easy going teachers in school. The one thing I am anal about is wearing jackets in class.

The main thing I take from this thread is how much high schools have changed in the few short years since I left. I graduated from a top notch high school in Scottsdale Arizona in 2000. We were allowed to do everything that has been talked about on this thread. Water bottles, cell phones, jackets, cd players etc. We also had an open campus for lunch meaning juniors and seniors could drive to lunch. That is unheard of nowadays I think. I went back to my school over the holidays (my stepmom teaches there) and they have erected a ten foot metal fence that surrounds the campus and kids can no longer leave for lunch, or at anytime during the day for that matter. Everything is outlawed. Looking back I admit we had a ton of freedom, but not many kids took advantage of it. Once or twice when we were seniors we got stoned or drunk at lunch but it was never a huge issue at our school (never widespread). Vodka in water bottles is the oldest trick in the book, but my school never outlawed water bottles. That is ridiculous. It seems to me that kids today cannot handle any form of responsibility so schools response has been to take it away rather than teaching kids to handle it properly. Schools have taken away every single one. I wonder how this new generation will turn out when they hit the real world.

It seems like at my school teachers dont really care as much. Everyone at my school gets a little "passbook" which has like 4 pages of passes so kids can leave class. Some teachers will limit the amount but most dont really care.

One thing that i really totally up to the teacher is whether u can listen to an mp3/ipod. Some teachers dont care if where just sitting there doing worksheets or w/e but other teachers will flip out and steal them for the rest of class.

ALso like TG no backpacks, however some teachers dont care, no phones...but at least once a week someones rings cause they are a dumbass, no hats...which i think is dumb, abd yes supposedly no coats but thats not really enforced too much

No back packs at my school either.

Also no off campus lunch(never really followed it anyway.)

I have early release this semester, so instead of getting out of school at 3:05, I get out at 12:56.

My fucking spanish teacher is nuts though. Shes from Ecuador and she doesnt take any shit. The other day we all saw her take her teacher's book and put it on this table across the room before she left the room for something. Then 5 minutes later she came back and freaked out and bitched at us because we wouldnt tell her who moved her book, even though we all told her we saw her do it.

She wont even let us stand up in her room anymore.
