help with embedded content?

Up until last week, I was able to view embedded video and hear embedded audio in my browser without any prompting. Now, I am being prompted to either open or save the embedded file, and when I choose open, it does not play the content in my browser, but rather in my default media player. This happens with both MSIE and Firefox. It only happens on my home computer. I can still get embedded content just fine on computers at work and school. Help please?

Oh yeah, and I have Windows XP SP2 - but this has all worked just fine before under SP2 - even though I suspect that the setting I'll need to tweak is in there somewhere.

Dear BP Valued Member,

Thank you for contacting BP eSupport and Services (ESS). We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I apologize for your trouble and I assure you it is our hope that you have a positive experience with our website.

if I understand the issue correctly then you need information about using the Dual Monitor with your system.

In order to resolve the issue I would recommend you to please visit the below mentioned link which says "Dual Monitor Support for the Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600 Video Card"

support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?dn=1065326

Some messageboard programs will wrap this address to a second line so you will have to copy each of the lines directly into the address bar of your browser with no spaces between the two sections.

This should resolve the issue in hand. If the problem still persists please feel free to contact us.

I again apologize for your trouble.

Thank you for choosing BP.

Respectfully,
** Ralph **

Yes, I do have it set to auto update.

I figured my settings changed somewhere along the line - either by auto update, my roommate, or during my iPod-iTunes installation ordeal. I can't seem to figure out exactly what setting it is that governs that though.

Since you mentioned both IE and Firefox I would suggest you start with Windows media player/Quicktime and check the settings. Perhaps the iPod software changed your default player and security settings. Every once in a great while I have to reinstall the codecs also, after a software upgrade.

JLB,
open up IE and choose Tools -> Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab, and scroll down to the Multimedia section. Are "Play Animations in web pages" , "Play Sounds in web pages" , "Play Videos in web pages" checked?

I haven't re-installed codecs yet, but I can tell you that my default players did not change. I had already checked that, and know that for sure. Also, I had checked what CleveBucks said (that was one of the first things I went to) Everything was as it should be there as well.

Firefox
should be tools-options-downloads-plugins?
Mine works.

edit

If all esle fails you may have to try to repair, if possible, or reinstall the media player. Is it Windows or Apple? Realtime?
