Well, having had the night to cool off. I have come up with a solution. Today, when I get home, I am going to make him take $50 down to the ladies house (she only lives a few doors down), give her the $ and apologize. Then, I am going to make him work off the $50 to me by reading a book, and writing a report on it for me. I have thought hard about this one, yard work... he would enjoy it, he isn't old enough to run the mower, his house work is shoddy. Nothing worse on summer vacation than doing school like work.

I am a dick

Good for you. I don't think you were too hard on him at all. One of the biggest problems our society faces now is that no one feels any responsibility for their actions, and many people never have to face up to the consequences of what they've done. Teaching him these lessons now will make him a better person later- count on it.

When I was a kid, pretty young, I smacked a baseball through a neighbor's window. My Dad paid to replace it, but he made me give up my allowance (which was like, a quarter a week or something...) for 6 or 8 weeks to help pay for it. Obviously, my contribution was next to nothing, but it taught me a lesson.

Gee, gosh, you were so hard on him... poor kid.. ha! Just teasing... I think if more parents would actually "parent" their children instead of being caught up with "being their friend" the world might be in a better place.

I would have done something very similar but around our house, you get in more trouble for not listening and lying (not saying this factors in, in this case) but yes, around here, more severe punishment for the moral issue than the actual act.

Id break the punishment down to include both factors.. part for disobeying and part for the repayment to the woman.

Plenty of time later in life when your children are grown to be their friends, now is the time to be their parent(s) and hats off to you for doing just that.

You need to beat the child. Legally, of course. I'm convinced that the reason kids today have no respect, are lazy, (I'm not going to keep going, you can all add to this list) etc., is because they are no longer spanked. I'm sorry, but "time out" just doesn't cut it.

In this risk of being dinged...I TOTALLY AGREE. Take your kids of the leash and bend em over your knee.

...not you gregorylee, i think you got a good idea there.
