He Wants Big Balls - Henman / Wimbledon

Watson, Crick & A Twist
For some reason this little news snippet reminds me (in more than one way) of the AC/DC song -- Big Balls:

Henman -- grousing once again on the eve of Wimbledon about his balls being flat. I know he is the hometown favorite, (which means he's pretty much a lock to get bounced by the 2nd round of play), but should Wimbledon actually cave to him?

Henman puts more bounce into Wimbledon balls

28may05

WIMBLEDON has bowed to pressure from British No. 1 Tim Henman and will keep its new balls bouncy for next month's tournament

Organisers said yesterday they would scrap their policy of opening tennis balls from their pressurised containers before the event after Henman complained the balls were flat.

"Wimbledon said they open all the balls 'about' a week before the tournament," Henman said. "I think that might have a part to play in why you feel like you're using flat balls after four or five games.

"It's obviously one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard of . . . you can imagine, by the time you get through to the second week . . . they look nice and new, and then they're basically flat.

"When you're out there trying to hit your serve and it won't go past 60 (miles per hour) . . . (that) might have something to do with it."

A four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist but yet to win a grand slam event, Henman has complained about the sport becoming slower and hampering his attacking serve-volley style. Reuters
