I mean, why the hell not once divisions are gone and its a 12 team playoff field?
That could actually help keep it from getting the huge asterisk when teams start resting players because they are already in the playoffs by the last week of the regular season.

I struggle to make it more than a few paragraphs into any Ramzy article. It's 20% substance, 80% flourish. The only good parts were the additions by Jones.
I get the Cooper comparison, it's easy to make. If that's your opinion it's hard to have much proof otherwise until Day gets another win. But I also think it's lazy. Cooper routinely lost to mediocre Michigan teams regardless of circumstance, and while I can't find the quotes I'm looking for, he never took it very seriously until he realized that game was his legacy.
Also, I don't think Cooper is a bad dude, seems pretty likeable outside of his shortcomings, but his teams would've absolutely folded in 2020 after facing constant testing and a shifting availability roster. His team also would've gotten shitcanned in the Rose Bowl last year.
This and the fact that Day needs to hand over playcalling are the only meaningful takeaways. For 2 decades we were gifted with glorious wins and beatdowns to the point of many fans viewing The Game as a speed bump rather than something to respect. The real concern was beating Alabama, Clemson, and the SEC flavor of the month. The culmination of this was the most base cowardice by Harbaugh to avoid humiliation and the loss of his job, and I think this finally led to some in the program and Day himself to let their guard down. The respect was gone, and it was all about revenge instead of winning.
That mantra of revenge might've worked prior to 2021. In fact, I'm almost sure it would've. Harbaugh would do something stupid, have a melt down, and a 17-10 game would've ballooned to 48-17 by the 4th quarter. But these teams are far different than any Michigan has fielded in years. That's why I can forgive '21, when a young team had their manhood taken from them by upperclassmen. But I can't forgive the staff not taking a step back and re-analyzing the threat they posed prior to 2022. Instead, the focus was inward and about showing how tough they were by making it a point to gain yardage a certain way.
I don't think Day has to be indoctrinated or watch a bunch of Cooper's losses from the 90s to understand. He hates Harbaugh, and I genuinely think he hates Michigan. But what he needs to do is take them seriously, and not worry about how they win, or how tough they look, or if he can embarrass them.
Dispense with the bullshit and just win the fucking game.

I did not get to see the Wisconsin game this year. Something about my only child (daughter) getting married. But I digress. From all that I saw of that game via replays, etc., that was the team and coaches that we needed last Saturday.

On some level I had that game in mind as dress rehearsal for TTUN. Unfortunately, the offense just didn't have that level of execution after the bye, and the injuries at RB didn't help either.

If Day only does one thing differently next season, for the love of God delegate play calling duties. It's not like there's no one else who can do it.
We've seen too many of the same calls too often, and it never seems like one call is meant to set something else up. It seems random, at times.

but that's part of the Peter principle. He got the new job because he was so good at his old job (calling the offense). The more things start to slide, the more people like him tighten their grip on what they used to do. It's what makes them feel like they are doing something to control the bleeding. It creates a downward spiral because they are neglecting the new job and getting lesser results from their efforts to still do their old job.
It's played out in the corporate world more times than anyone can count. The new CEO comes from finance, the finance department goes to shit. From sales, sales fall off, etc etc etc.
Goes back to the simple truth that being a great solo violinist doesn't make you a great conductor. Coordinating the whole show is a different job. Different jobs require different skills. Some guys make that adjustment and some guys cannot.

damn... excruciating... but very very very well-written. a TON of one-liner zingers in there that were brilliantly set up.
EDIT: this idea that we didn't use our best players and instead put the game in the hands of lesser talent in critical situations... i don't know... i'd need to see some stats. or is it just that when the lesser players messed up, it just stings more. i think ramzy's point is why even risk that in a game like this?

Well we did have a RB that was a LB a month ago. Otherwise yes we did throw mainly to Egbuka and Harrison. However overall I agree and I've agreed all season with this if you look at my posts.
Is Cade Stover, Rossi, Johnson, and Scott one of our top 11 players? No.
Our best 11 when healthy is our top 5 OL, Henderson or Williams, Stroud, Fleming, Harrison Jr, Egbuka and JSN. That's what the line up should be if we make the playoffs and everyone gets healthy although we won't.
I've always wanted to know how our running game would look if we went 4 wide and the threat of the pass required so many resources.

This whole thing really feels like it's building toward a playoff rematch. The absolute unconscionable levels of shit talking from Michigan is like nothing I've ever seen before and it just feels like some destined scenario of karmic justice. They're being so shamelessly cunty in victory that I can't see anyway they don't get a brutal fall to Earth.
