I've stated this many times and I'm not sure if people think I'm kidding, but it's public record that there are only three goals on the Ohio State football coach's review and that's one of them. I mean, it's a three question test, so it matters quite a bit.

So, they just let John Cooper fail the test for what 13 years? I’m not saying it’s not in there. But, I don’t believe it’s the be all end all of the coaches review in today’s football program.

I think the 3 question test was created because of Cooper.

Yeah and they let the 1 guy who never lost to scUM and won a National Title go. Why was that, because of extra curricular BS that looked bad for the University.

1. Winning nearly 90% of his games
2. Bringing in the $$$
3. Not embarrassing the university with NCAA or "social" situations

He's not getting fired anytime soon. With a new AD coming in who likely won't be an Ohio State graduate, I'd say the chances of this remaining the focus within the administration is likely to continue.

The "3 question test" probably mattered more when Tressel and Urban were hired. 20 years of dominance probably lessened its importance within the AD office - for better or worse. Edit to add: I don't like it. I think it takes away the identity of the program to a certain extent, but at the same time, I think it's reality, and fighting reality is seems useless to me.

And the more I think about it, #2 is probably the most important of the 3 listed reasons. Ohio State LOVES to tell people how Ohio State's AD makes enough money to totally support itself. In the new era that starts next year with the 12 team playoff and 16 team Big Ten, it will be an even greater focus.

I don't think today is a "hot seat" day after they "squeaked out" a 20-point win. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out.

Old enough to remember sitting in the 'shoe in the 50s and watching a plane circle above tugging a banner, "Fire Woody" and hearing a parody on Carmen Ohio that went, "Oh come, let's sing Ohio's praise, and say good bye to Woody Hayes." Same banner was flown in 65 and 66 seasons.

Day just got a fucking raise for losing his last two games of the year and Smith publicly stated The Game is just another game. It may never sit well with a good percentage of us but I think the days of The Game being the end all be all of OSU football are over.

With the expanded playoffs it will feel more and more like the NFL. Yeah sure there are rivalry games but the playoffs is all anyone cares about. As long as Day isn't fucking up the money machine or otherwise tarnishing the brand, why would they fire him? It's a new world in CFB, we aren't going to change it. All we can do is make our own decisions about how much we are going to give a fuck about it.

That's Mean Gene's review criteria. He's leaving, so the criteria may change.

I researched this further and I erred in regards to the performance goals of the head coach at OSU. It's 4 parts, not 3.

Win Big 10
Win National Championship
Team GPA over 3.0

I've questioned his sorry ass many times. People don't seem to want to hear it but this is a good concrete example. If those are the stated goals, how does 1 of 4 at best = raise and good performance review?

My understanding is that it was a contractual raise....as in, they were required to give it to him.
