HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Definitely a part of me that's wondering where this was all year, specifically the obvious result against scUM.

Maybe that was his come to Jesus moment, some people need to hit rock bottom, just to bounce back with a fury. Hoping these two games were the turning point that we, as fans, can look back on as the nexus event. If the Michigan game was the catalyst (even though it would've been nicer to, you know, not have a catalyst) and the Bucks bring home a NC, I'll forget about that result in a heartbeat.

Too early to think anything's a sure thing, but I haven't felt this confident in Day since some time in 2019/2020. Would be an absolute hell of a story when it comes to redemption arcs. Rooting for the guy.

Totally agree.

To further make the point I was touching on above, Almost every text or in person comment I have gotten after these two games from non Buckeye people I know is "how the fuck did you guys lose to M*chigan?". I swear it's the first thing they say.

Not anything about Smith or the epic ass kickings. It's that.

So it's not me shitting on Day, it's just human nature I guess.

I hope so.

I've been as hard on Day as anyone here. I'm old school, objectives for me are 1) beat tCun, 2) Win the B1G, 3) National Championship. The first 2 are leagues ahead of #3 just because of how goddamned hard #3 is. We have utterly failed objectives #1 and 2 four years running. That is unacceptable to me as a fan. All that said, I do think Ryan Day is a phenomenal person. I think he represents the University exceptionally well. You cannot argue with his ability to assemble an obscenely talented roster. I think what he and his family had to endure on a personal level is disgusting and should never happen; it's a fucking game played by kids. But, something is just missing in that circuitry. Maybe that dreadful loss last month was a hard reboot that he needed. I sure hope so, because I want nothing more than for him to run through these playoffs and throttle those cheating fucks next November.

As a child of the 90s, all I have wanted to see was us take over the H2H record against TTUN in my lifetime. Obviously didn't think the streak in the 2000s could last forever, but 4 in a row was damn near the last straw for me. As staunch a supporter of Coach Day as I had been, this past loss to that team really shook a lot of that support, and I was fine if OSU decided to move on. However, it's a new landscape, and a loss to TTUN isn't the death knell it previously was; there are still paths to hardware that weren't available previously with that loss.

I read a comment in r/CFB that stuck out: It took losing to Oregon to fix the defense, and it took losing to TTUN to fix the offense. If 4 in a row to TTUN and basically a public flogging is what was needed to unlock this team, then so be it. I won't stand there and ask why so stubborn, what took so long, etc.; I'll just try to enjoy the ride. And hopefully next season won't require another two losses, particularly one to TTUN, to unlock this team's potential.

If he wins these next two games, especially in the fashion he's won these first two, I'll be the first to eat the biggest helping of crow.

That SCUM loss was the most baffling thing I've ever seen watching OSU football. If Day crushes his next two opponents, it'll be even more baffling.

I think he has seen at least some light. I was paying attention to how he reacted in game context (i.e., calling necessary time outs, showing some emotion and communicating positive energy to the players). The "get to the 4th quarter with a chance to win" mantra would seem to be dead and buried. The first half last night was the best first half that I have witnessed...ever.

Day benefits greatly from there being 2 seasons now. He's never wanted to fully unleash his team in the regular season due to fear of injuries and maybe showing too much. Not sure exactly. In the CFP, they're forced to fully adapt to the new OL, cut the fat, and go for it right out of the gate.

It also feels like the changes and improvements they've made in a matter of weeks would be pretty difficult to do. Makes me think they tried to install too much throughout the season, and this new narrowed focus has helped with execution and fundamentals. Obviously guys peaking at the right time helps too, but I doubt it's a coincidence.

I don't think anybody needs to eat crow. If we're Maryland and throwing tantrums that we're not beating everybody, that's nonsense. That's actual lunatic fringe. When people are questioning why we aren't doing exactly what we did against Tenn and Oregon when we played Michigan? That's common sense. Your ass should be on the hot seat if you have a team capable of what we've seen these last 2 games and instead choose to play like an asshole.

And I'm not saying the 1st half against Oregon is what every Ohio State game should look like from now until Coach Day is no longer the coach. But THIS team, THIS year......the slow starts and the straight up horseshit game plan specifically against Michigan......those shouldn't have happened. Thank god it was finally corrected.

Perfect post. Day is letting the cannons loose on the talent he worked so hard to procure. Remember that big sigh of relief that JJ Smith signed with us? Just air it to him and see what happens. You also have Egbuka/Tate/Innis if you want to use JJ as a decoy.

There has been an awakening here and I have full faith in Day right now to get us to the title. I am glad because I wanted him gone absent a title appearance...and I don't want him gone to be clear. I think he showed his worth in the playoffs and we just need to trounce Tejas to solidify that.

I agree. I wish they could have stopped that play in the last 3 seconds to keep the goose egg at halftime, but that performance deserves all the superlatives it’s been getting.

The 59-0 Wiscy game was 38-0 at the half, but the level of competition wasn’t as tough, and a lucky bounce late in the half provided a defensive score.

Even in the 1940 NFL Championship Game, Bears 73-0 over Washington, it was only 28-0 at the half. But you probably didn’t see that one.

Totally agree. Up to late November 2024 there was no redemption arc. There was a flatline. Two epic ass kickings in the first ever playoff does not equal "see I told you so!". It's revisionist to sit here and say "see you should have never doubted him or said "boo" about him" as he makes this playoff run.

He earned the blow torch level heat under him over a span of nearly 6 years. If the light finally came on then fanfuckingtastic. That is what we all wanted but losing 4 in a row, only winning 1 of his first 4 CFP games, these things happened and people were (rightfully imo) pissed.

If a little lunatic fringe action played a small part in said light switch being flipped then can anyone say it was a bad thing?

Agreed but to be fair, I straight up said Day didn't have it in him to beat four elite teams in a row. I'll certainly eat crow if he does this year.
