HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

The Buckeyes are currently 0-2 for their team goals this year. Losing to scUM means they can't win the B1G. The rivalry still matters.

The “they can still win the national title” people crack me up. This coach is not putting together 4 Ws in a row against higher level teams.

10 wins may be wishful thinking if Day gets fired. This team will absolutely get poached in the transfer portal and I’d be willing to bet that more than half the current recruits don’t sign. As a fan base I think we may have to adjust the importance of the SCum game, unfortunately. The new playoff era, free agency (NIL) and the fact that college football has absolutely become more corporate than ever, IMO will mean that less emphasis will be placed on “The game” and more emphasis on the entirety of the season. College football will by default basically be the NFL. College football as we know it, is dead.
If we have to de-emphasize the importance of the game, I'm no longer interested in CFB. Doing stuff like that kills the sport. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I don't have interest in a CFB world where the importance of The Game is secondary to anything.

All I know is my expectations of an OSU team moving forward are out the window I’m over sports for real. I’m gonna start enjoying the next hopefully 20 years of my life doing things that have little bearing on what some young college kids are doing I their respective sport. The Ohio State stickers, hitch. license plate, camo wrap, and window cling are going to get removed from my truck tomorrow when I sober up! More to life than wasting it in disappointment! I’m not 20 anymore. I’d rather spend quality time doing family things than worrying about a bunch of college kids.
I did that with the NFL about four years ago. My life is MUCH better now that I give two rips about the pros.

Get a grip? I'm not sure what prompted that response.

I'm not really interested in winning 10 games. I'm a lot more interested in winning national championships. Ryan Day has kept Ohio State in the national championship picture from 2019 to 2024, and the Buckeyes could still easily win the NC this season (primarily due to the competition being less than stellar). I don't know who Ohio State could hire that would get this team over to actually win NCs as opposed to merely being in the hunt. If you have any suggestions, please post them.
As I speedrun all the Stages of Grief and get to coping…I start to have some sacrilegious thoughts.

My personal goal is to Beat That Team Up North #1. However! They clearly do not stand in the way of the ultimate goal of sports, winning a championship. Case in point this year. And the Georgia year, even before expansion.

It’s an interesting interesting dilemma for a program. I want the best of both worlds - win The Game and win a title. But the school and program has a much different choice than 30 years ago.

Now there’s arguments that winning The Game vs a regional rival eventually impacts your ability to recruit and win long term (losing today is a boost to them for sure). It’s also a test in how you’ll do in other big games.

I’m not saying me…but it’s a different world. The sport is already riddled with paid mercenaries. And they’re devaluing the regular season every year. It’s the NFL lite. Showing up for 3 weeks at the end is enough.

It’s not the world I grew up in or one I love but it’s changed. Will the next generation care if OSU were to somehow win a title?Where the program decides to go at this crossroads will be interesting.

What if they win the national title? Going to have to accept that that possibility will always be possible in future years regardless how gross it seems.

My man you just watched that game and think this coaching staff is capable of winning 4 in a row vs all top 15ish type teams?

I don’t disagree with you at all. The changes in college football have made me less interested in all games as a whole. I used to spend 20+ hours a week watching college football. Now i only watch the Buckeyes. I’m finding I am giving less of a shit about this sport than ever and it’s dwindling year by year. 5 years ago I’d be beyond pissed off and would have my entire weekend ruined from a Buckeye loss. Not so much anymore. Losses piss me off but I realize it’s not the game I once loved and have adjusted accordingly.

Honestly I have nothing to suggest. OSU probably has to move on from Day. Which is a shame, because I like him.

It is obvious that he has a mental block with this game. There is something there, that no matter who OSU brings in, that OSU ends up in this place more often than not.

If he wants to out tough other teams, then pour money into the trenches, and not other areas. Which does not seem like a priority.

If OSU keeps Day, then beating Scum is not a priority. In all honesty, this day and age, OSU does not need to beat Scum to get to the playoffs and even win.

We all know that isn't good enough.

Just not sure who OSU will get, that won't implode our team and recruiting. I don't see names out there that seem to fall in line with what will win OSU a national championship.

Honestly, I see dark days ahead for OSU, because it seems like a can't win situation.
