HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Watch the 2014 highlights, many are Wilson going deep.

It infuriated the piss out of me that the staff acted like Samuel was our only weapon. I Samuel a weapon, hell yeah. But so were Campbell and Wilson, both with speed to burn but were not used. Noah Brown should have been a huge target more at the goal line, big body possession guy, but after the show he put on at OU the staff forgot about him too. Focus solely on getting Samuel the ball was not the best way IMHO. We had a lot of talent that was not used.

Samuel could have been a great decoy, but there was little to ZERO misdirection the past two years.

5 former Ohio State players who could go overlooked in the NFL draft

The NFL Scouting Combine kicks off on Tuesday, and once again the Ohio State football program will possess a heavy presence in Indianapolis.

After having 12 players drafted — including five first-rounders — a year ago, the Buckeyes will send eight former players to next week’s annual draft showcase. Among the former OSU players invited to this year’s combine are projected first-round picks Malik Hooker and Marshon Lattimore, as well as center Pat Elflein, linebacker Raekwon McMillan, H-back Curtis Samuel, cornerback Gareon Conley and punter Cam Johnston.

But just because a prospect didn’t get invited to the combine doesn’t mean his NFL hopes are over. With that in mind, let’s look at five ex-Buckeyes who could go overlooked this draft season.

Dontre Wilson
After arriving in Columbus as a highly touted member of the Buckeyes’ historic 2013 class, Dontre Wilson never quite lived up to the hype. Instead of becoming the next Percy Harvin in Urban Meyer’s offense as many expected him to, injuries limited Wilson’s impact over the course of his college career.

Moving between running back, wide receiver and H-back, Wilson totaled 1,353 yards and 12 touchdowns over the course of four years. He did, however, prove reliable as a receiver in 2016, catching 27 passes for 352 yards and 5 scores.

Wilson won’t take part in the combine, but he did already play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January. During the game, he received strong praise from former NFL star Torry Holt, who served as one of his coaches for the game.

With his versatility and speed, Wilson could catch on with an NFL team this offseason, likely as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent. Ultimately, his most likely role at the next level is on special teams — provided he can stay healthier than he did during his time in Columbus.

4.59 at a pro day? That is slooow.

I think it's exaggerated how "disappointing" his career was---lot of highly rated players have done a lot less than 1500 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns---but it's pretty clear he just doesn't have the explosive physical traits he was advertised to have.

Always seemed like a good kid. Came in with a TON of hype, and a lot of kids might have looked to transfer out after a couple of years of not becoming a featured part of the offense. But Dontre stuck it out, and while he certainly didn't meet the significant hype he came in with, he was a solid contributor. If Jalin Marshall can catch on to an NFL roster, I don't see why Dontre can't.

Having a bum foot the last 2.5 years tends to take away some explosiveness

Inside story on what is going on with Dontre Wilson, Chargers

On Thursday evening, Bucknuts chatted with Wilson's father -- Don Wilson -- to get their side of the story on why Wilson didn't sign with the Chargers and what might be next for him.

"There were 3-4 doctors that examined his foot and said he was clear, he was fine, but there was one doctor that wouldn't clear him," Don Wilson said. "But 3-4 doctors said he was fine. Just all the rumors about his foot and whatever else just are not true. It was just one doctor that would not clear him.

"We are in the process of talking to several other NFL teams."

To be clear, Don Wilson confirmed to Bucknuts that his son never signed with the Chargers, despite reports to the contrary.

"No, he never did," Don Wilson said.
