  • HawaiianBuckeye (former Buckeye punter Scott Terna for those of you who don't know), played in an all-star game back in July(?) in Tokyo. The game was between a team of Japanese X-League all stars and a team comprised of former pro and college players with Hawaiian ties. Scott punted four times (the broadcast copy I obtained edited out his first punt), and was very, very impressive. Looking at his kicks, I'd like to see some pro team give him a look.

Scott's connection to OSU is that both parents are OSU grads, who had moved here to Hawaii and stayed here...Scott was born and raised here, but is a Buckeye at heart. Hey, if you think he can punt good with a beer in his hand, you should see him play video games with a beer in one hand...

He didn't actually punt in the pros IIRC, but had try-outs with both Green Bay and Tampy Bay. He'll fill you in on the correct details...

OK I was just wondering on that.

With that 45 average he had in that game, it looks like he could get a job punting. Of course, there isn't much demand for punters in the pro's.

wow...that's pretty awesome! I don't know anything about punters and professinal possibilities...but you gotta think there's something out there for a leg like that.

He did a really nice job recovering from the bad snap on the 3rd one too!

    Classic stuff Mili!

LOL! Not bad considering I hadn't trained in 5 years and tore, yes TORE (medium tear) my quadricep on my kicking leg four weeks before the game while practicing kickoffs because I wasn't in shape and my muscles were not used to that kind of "wear and tear" (no pun intended). It hurt like a son of a bitch! I went to my HS for treatment EVERYDAY up until we left for Japan and didn't really practice punting at all except the last two days before we left. I did ok, nothing special, in the game and the one punt that was cut out from the Hawaii broadcast was probably one of my better two punts. If I had spent about three months training and had my muscles in some kind of shape like they were years ago (strengthwise) I probably would not have torn my quad and done a lot better.

The last punt was one I had to get off after a high snapp and it turned out fine with the 15 yd roll. The whole fucked up thing though was that even after that ball being pinned on the 9yd line with 3:52 to go and a 3 pt lead I knew something bad was going to happen. The defense blew it and let them drive down the field to win the game with a TD!

A college all star team would've won that game 85-0! Seriously!
