Haven't seen anything live, other than t.v. highlights, but word out of camp is that Brennan and the receivers have looked sharp. The receiving corps is deep and talented. That's the good news. The key to this season is the offensive line, and they are still a work in progress. From what I've heard, pass protection has been fairly decent (they are replacing three starters), but the run game still needs work. Yeah, I know, since when does Hawaii need a running game, but it's called the run and shoot for a reason. You still have to be able to run, at least to beat the good teams. Running back is still by committee at this point, with three guys each bringing something different to the table. The Nebraska transfer has shown flashes, but is still working on picking up the blocking schemes, which is huge in this offense. Defensively, McMackin has implemented more of a zone blitz scheme as opposed to Glanville. They have switched to more of a four man front, and the interior linemen appear to be solid. A dominant pass rusher off of the edge has yet to emerge. The strength of the D is the LB's, but several have been slowed by nagging type of injuries. Supposedly, none are serious, but the three starters have not spent much time practicing together. UH has experience in the secondary, but the corners are both in the 5'9" range, and struggled in man coverage at times last year. There are several JC transfers who came into camp late, and may make an impact as the season progresses. The safeties are more known for being physical against the run, which is great in most conferences, not so sure in the WAC. Punter is still up in the air, but UH is not known for punting that much anyway. The placekicker returns, and he's pretty solid. In terms of Dayton's prospects, the schedule is definitely in his favor. Boise, Fresno, and UW are the high profile games (all at home), but given UH's track record, I'd be wary of playing at San Jose State (Tomey, former Hawaii head coach, has traditionally played UH tough) and at Nevada (despite what anyone says, Reno is cold in November, at least to people in Hawaii). We shall see what transpires.

Brennan and his three returning WR's will be DEADLY no doubt! The scoreboard will light up like a MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT! NMSU game will have over 100+ pts scored IMO. That is gonna be a doozy of a game to watch! Like Mili I have some reservations about Nevada. This is THE year for Hawai'i to break out it's all lining up and the fans are geeked about running the table. Here is my take. As much as I'd love to see them get in and break the BCS "code" like Boise did last year I am not sure if they're ready. What do I mean by that? Well, they have all the talent they need and the schedule to do it, but b/c of all the preseason hype on the team and Colt Brennan for the Heisman can they HANDLE the hype and the expectations for going 12-0? That's going to be the real test b/c they've NEVER been here before. Taking everyone's best shot every week when you're on top is nothing new to us Buckeye fans but for a team and it's fans like Hawai'i...they're totally foreign to it and that could be the downfall.

Last night on ESPN's College GameDay Live, 25 Hour Edition, Reece and May took a half hour off of slobbering all over USC to talk about Hawaii, Colt Brennan, the Heisman, and June Jones. Mark May mentioned that June Jones (a former NFL coach, of course) had experience coaching at the highest level of football, to which Reece jokingly responded, "I didn't know June Jones ever coached in the SEC." Much laughter ensued on the set. Good stuff! :tongue2:

Damn fine logic. I'm almost glad I can't bet on this game. NC is relatively new to IAA (or whatever it's called now) but the real question is how bad will June Jones run it up. I don't know enough about Hawaii to answer that question. Hawaii folks will June run up the score?
