have you guys ever taken protein shakes?

there was no way in hell that im taking riods...heck no...and im not shootin up if yall were thinking that too lol....but i do like the eat right and workout routine...all i got to do now is lay off the junk food,.. thats going to be hard..and the sodas...

at your age, buckeye07, if you're eating some junk food and working out, it's not that bad. you mentioned that you look too small in your jersey, so i'm guessing you'd like to add some mass and some muscle. if that's you're goal, just make sure that you're eating enough. eat more than usual and try to make most of it healthy (complex carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, and quality sources of protein). at your age and your current build, you don't need to worry so much about the quality of food that you're eating. heck, start to worry about that once your body begins to decompose, which will be about 25.

Cytosport Muscle Milk has to be the best tasting protein on the market. Choclate is a very good flavor and i hear banana also tastes good. Drink it with skim milk and it tastes very good.
as well it should. for each serving, which contains 32 grams of protein, there are 18 gramsof fat. fook, you should really look at www.proteinfactory.com . you could formulate your own version of that stuff there, and it will cost less. also, cytosport muscle milk lists whey protein concentrate as a primary ingredient among the proteins. you could instead use isolate in your concoction, which i'm sure would still cost cheaper. furthermore, proteinfactory sells medium chain triglycerides (mct), which is the ingredient that differentiates cytosport's product from others.

what foods would you reccomend for complex carbohydrates? and also do you think that more than 3 hard boiled eggs a day is too much, because ive heard once you get to 3-4 you should start to only eat the whites of the eggs. but that may not really matter with me much with the age im at and the metabolism i have.

complex carbohydrate foods: whole wheat products, oats, brown rice, bran/high fiber products, potatoes, and nuts. of course, scarlet, there are many, many more. you should want to stay away from (as much as possible) refined/simple carbohyrates. these, too, are easy to locate. most sweet products, white bread, general baked goods, fruit juices are loaded with simple carbohydrates. just look at the ingredients. if you see glucose, fructose, sucrose, dextrose, corn syrup, molasses, or white flour as ingredients, chances are it fits into the category of simple/refined carbohydrates. the more steps it takes to produce the product, the greater the odds are that the product is full of simple/refined carbohydrates.

well, you sort of answered your own question. it seems that you are young enough to be able to sustain and thrive from eating some hard-boiled eggs. if you're an ectomorph (thin with trouble gaining weight), feel free to eat them. they're high in saturated fats, so it's not something i'd recommend long-term. if you're an endomorph (heavy with trouble losing/sustaining weight), then you'd probably want to stay away from them. you imply that you have a fast metabolism, so, again, eat away. i wouldn't go crazy with refined/simple carbohydrates and high fat foods, but you're young and you should enjoy the fast metabolism while you can. also, if you're exercising a lot, you have a green light to eat virtually as much as you want without paying the toll for it. when i was in high school, i ate absolutely everything in front of me and only lost weight. that is no longer the case.

This is beyond easy....Train,eat and sleep..If your only 155lbs i'm doubting your weightlifting regimen is in tact. It's pretty basic to generally add a good bit of weight just within a few months or working out.

As you get older/advanced the importance of dieting greatly increases. The more pain in the ass it becomes. Honestly I'd keep protein as high as possible and just enjoy yourself. At your age your going to grow regardless but the protein will add more of the muscle then just a general build.

Protein shakes are about the only thing i'd endorse for someone your age. As others have mentioned they're a lot of good companys out there..www.dpsnutrition.com has about the best prices i've seen...

what would you guys recommend to eat in part of a daily diet to build strength, but also muscle definition? I know staying away from fatty and greasy foods, doing cardio exercise, and lifting weights are the main parts, but i was just wondering if anyone had any tips on specific foods to eat, and also maybe a specific protein shake that would not deter from the defining part of muscle building, rather than just building the bulk in general.

The thing is, to build muscle, you gonna have to increase your calorie intake (unless you are a beginner to lifting). Figure out what you need to maintain your body weight, and then experiment with a higher number.

How much you increase is determined by your goal: to bulk or clean bulk. If you just want to do a normal bulk, you'll put on muscle quickly, put also some fat. Then you have to deal with cutting to lose some of the body fat. With a clean bulk, your calories will be less of an increase over your maintain #, so you will grow at a slower rate, but it will be more muscle than fat.

As for foods, there isn't one thing that will contribute to muscle mass. You just need your cumulative numbers to add up. Get a lot of protein, a good amount calories, try to stay away from the saturated fats. Chicken, tuna, and protein (ON 100% Whey) gives me most of the protein I need.
