Is this the same crack journalist who broke the huge MoC story last year? It is hard to tell since he has been clever enough to change his name from Michael Freeman to Mike Freeman. Of course, he now works for the Jacksonville rag instead of the NY Times.

Sports Reporter Lies on Job Application
Michael Freeman, a veteran sports reporter who broke a story for The New York Times in July 2003 about academic fraud allegations involving Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett, misrepresented his own academic credentials on a job application he filled out for a new position as a sports columnist for the Indianapolis Star. Acting on a tip, the Star investigated and found that Mr. Freeman had attended the university for four years but had never graduated; he promptly resigned. A Times spokesperson said that Mr. Freeman had not claimed to be a college graduate when he was hired in November 1992. In a statement published in the Star, Mr. Freeman wrote, "It was the only time I have told such falsehoods, and no other deceptions have ever appeared in any of my newspaper stories or two books at any time in my 16 years of practicing journalism."
