Has Anyone Been to UAE

buckeyebri

  • I may have to go to Al Ain and Abu Dhabi in the UAE for work in March or April for about a week. Has anyone been there? If you have, do you have any advice for me on customs, travel or anything else?

    Thanks!

Your company must not have one of those "we don't send employees into a potentially hazardous situation" policies..

I'm sure the UAE is fine but why we would send any civilian there at the current moment with how much resentment is in place for people over there is beyond me

    You're kidding, right?

To the OP: UAE is going to be an awesome experience for you. One of the most stable and prosperous countries in the world, let alone the middle east.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work are you going to be doing?

We are a cloud based / SaaS company that works with governments and utilities. I am going be to helping them with some implementation and training and may be visiting with some other communities there in a sales capacity.

Alrighty, the trip is finally on. Heading to Dubai, Al Ain and maybe a few other places while there. End of September for two weeks. Our contact company there is a British firm. The gentleman I am working with said that he was going to show me the Persian delicacies...hmmmm

Travel has been good so far. The UAE is pricey even though the exchange rate is roughly 3.65 Durham to U.S. dollar. You can typically only buy beer in the hotel, so you can guess where I spend most off hours.

What a melting pot of people though. A huge British ex-pat community. On Friday they have these huge all you can eat and drink buffets at many of the establishments in Dubai where they watch "football". Haven't been able to catch much real football.

How are the Persian delicacies in the United Arab Emirates?

Maybe this week, but I was told to be prepared to be disappointed by another American on the plane ride in....

From my understand the park itself is pretty lame (unless you are a huge Ferrari fanboi but I would go just to ride Foruma Rossa. The park wasn't open the last time I was in Dhubai (2010).
