Has a team ever won with field goals, while the other scores at least one touchdown?

Poor OP could’ve avoided this all if only AI was around 20 years ago.

This thread came to mind because UAB beat ECU in over time. UAB had the ball first, and scored to go up 24-17. Then ECU threw a pick 6 and the defender actually ran it all back.

My first question in my mind was has that happened before? And if so how often?

Well instead of embarrassing myself on BP, I googled it and Gemini gave me the answer:

The exact games where this anomaly has occurred include:

  • 1996: Arizona State 48, USC 35 — The Sun Devils used an overtime pick-six to cap off a thrilling 13-point victory.
  • 1998: Central Michigan 36, Eastern Michigan 23 — This game ended on a defensive "scoop and score" fumble recovery in the extra period.
  • 2022: Kansas 55, West Virginia 42 — The Jayhawks secured their upset in Morgantown with an overtime interception return.
  • 2026: UAB 30, East Carolina 17 — The Blazers most recently matched this feat with a dramatic game-ending pick-six during their homecoming game.
