NEW YORK -- Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla, Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin and Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin have been nominated for the Hart Trophy, the NHL's most valuable player award.

The league announced the finalists, chosen by a vote of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season, on Tuesday. The winner will be announced Thursday, June 12 during the 2008 NHL awards show in Toronto.

TORONTO -- You can call Alexander Ovechkin NHL MVP. What the Washington Capitals young star really wants is to be known as Stanley Cup champion.

Ovechkin capped off a special season Thursday night by capturing the NHL's two most prestigious individual awards. He won the Hart Trophy as league MVP and the Lester B. Pearson Award as the players' choice for the most outstanding player.

"I think I'm the happiest 22-year-old guy on the planet," Ovechkin said.

The trophy haul already included the Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL's top goal scorer (65) and the Art Ross Trophy as the top point-getter (112).

It was a great season all around for the NHL, except for the fact that the Pens lost the Cup!!!!! Three more months and camps will be opening.

blake had leukemia this year. he went through treatment after being diagnosed in october and still played in 82 games!!
