Looks pretty cool, this morning I was listening to QFM96 and they was talking about it, a Led Zepplin ride that will play Whole Lotta Love. The park looks like it will be a cool place to visit soon.
Starting April 18, 2007, The Hard Rock Park Backstage Tour will offer a preview of the park with interactive exhibits, info about the rides, shows, and park features, and rock memorabilia. Admission is free.
Hard Rock Park Phone:
843-236-ROCK
Admission Info:
For now, the park is listing one price, $46, for "children of all ages." Children 3 and under will be free. I'd be surprised if the park didn't introduce discounts for children and seniors, as is typically offered at theme parks. Advance tickets are available at the Hard Rock Park Web site. Currently, there is no info about season passes, but I'd suppose there would be strong visitor interest in them, particularly since the park is planning on staging lots of live concerts.
The park will likely be open about 10 months out of the year.
Hard Rock Park Features:
Rides and attractions, including roller coasters, lots of memorabilia, a concert venue for live performances, restaurants (of course), and retail stores (naturally). The developers are also talking about including a Hard Rock Hotel, slated for a tentative 2009 opening.
Hard Rock Park Overview:
When it opens in spring 2008, the 140-acre, $400-million Hard Rock Park (which are both generous figures for a theme park), will be the first park themed to rock music. It will offer rock-influenced attractions, along with lots of rock 'n' roll memorabilia, shows, restaurants, shops, and a 12,000-person amphitheater that will present live musical performances. The park will feature six zones:
All Access Entry Plaza What would a Hard Rock Park be without retail shops? This Route 66-themed area will be the place to make impulse purchases on the way in and out of the park.
Rock & Roll Heaven I guess this area will be dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, and other rock legends who are no longer cranking it up to 11.
British Invasion The Beatles, Stones, Who, and, perhaps, more modern-day UK artists will get their due here.
Lost in the 70s This will be an indoor area that will use the decade's dubious mix of disco, punk, and glam music as its backdrop.
Cool Country It's only natural that a park in the South--even one that's focused on rock and roll--would tip its cowboy hat to country music.
Born in the USA A catch-all zone that will celebrate US-bred rockers (who are presumably not dead, didn't record in the 70s, and have nothing to do with country music).
Among the Hard Rock Park's 40 attractions, visitors can look forward to five roller coasters, including Led Zeppelin--The Ride, a 150-foot tall looping coaster that will feature an onboard audio system belting out the band's hit, "Whole Lotta Love;" Maximum RPM!, billed as a test drive in a British sports car; Midnight Rider, which will take place in an abandoned sawmill and feature country rock; and Slippery When Wet, a suspended coaster with water cannons.
A wild sounding dark ride, Magic Mushroom Garden, will take guests on a (legal) psychedelic trip. The park is describing the ride as the "world's largest black light poster." Other rides will include Bump-n-Slam, a cleverly named Dodgem attraction with disco- and punk-themed bumper cars, Reggae River Falls, an interactive water play area, and Muddin' Monster Race, a car ride that will be mired in Woodstock-worthy mud. Younger kids will be able to blast each other (and their parents) with foam balls in Garage Jam! and explore the play areas in Kids Rock! State Park. (The Hard Rock Park sure likes to use a lot of exclamation marks!)
In addition to the main amphitheater, the park will present a country-themed ice show, a stunt show devoted to roadies, and Malibu Beach party, a show that will include diving, cycling, and other feats of daring-do set to a California beat. There will also be an R&B-themed FunkyTown Midway as well as a Pinball Wizard Arcade. Restaurants will include the Carnaby Street Cafe, themed to London's mod scene, the Rockabilly BBQ, and the goth-inspired The Kitchen Below. Oddly, there will be no Hard Rock Cafe at the park. There is already a Myrtle Beach Hard Rock Cafe, in a distinctive pyramid building, at the nearby Broadway at the Beach complex.
