And its 50/50 on the arrest. 
By Friday the entire NOPD is in sleep deprivation mode after two weeks of Carnival and the weekend and Lundi Gras. You do NOT want to do something in front of them or disobey what they say - even if you are right. You'll be in the tank for two days and that ain't pretty. A guy and his girlfriend tried to cross the street last night while the parade was going on and were tackled and arrested like they were terrorists. Cop told him he could not cross. He jumped over the barricade and ran for it. Bad idea. His GF jumped over too, then jumped back. They pulled her over the barricade and arrested her as well.
Something about drunks crossing the street and ten tons of float with no visability do not mix. It is really a good rule, if annoying, not to let folks cross when they feel like it.
