I always thought that a student's email address/local address/etc... were way too accessable at OSU and now we see a reason why. The kid screwed up but everyone makes mistakes. You need to cut him a little slack though...sending hate mail is uncalled for.

The guys don't HAVE To use their school-given emails, do they? When I was in college, we rarely ever used ours. We used our yahoo accounts.

A lot of classes send out a lot of e-mails, and you get notifications of stuff form the Registrar, Treasurer, etc...a lot of people forward their OSU accounts to Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail

I tihnk there is too much info on there though...it has my full name, home address and phone number, which doesn't exactly need to be public

How else was I supposed to stalk all the girls I liked back on college? Did I say that out loud? j/k :P

I'm surprised they don't have the option to be "unlisted". What if you had a stalker (*cough*Exhawg*cough*) or a violent ex who you didn't want to track you down? With all the security increases around the world, allowing the college to reveal your location like that just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Please gentlemen,
I received a quick note from a prominent BPer whom I have respected since I started posting here, and he brought up a good point that I felt I should act on-
I didn't post those young men's email addresses on this post so you can send critiques, unnecessary fan mail or for you to stalk them. These emails are publicly available and I do believe we have very respectable fans here at BP. However, just like the Texas fans complain, there are some bad apples in every tree. Don't be a bad apple. If you send an email, keep it short and only communicate a positive message. As an example, here is what I sent:

Just a quick note to let you know that not all OSU fans are boneheads. The sane fans are extremely supportive and realize that a loss is the result of missed team opportunities, not one mistake. I played college ball as well and I have never seen anyone grade out at 100%. Keep your head up, this is what great people are made of:
"It is not our mistakes who define who we are; it is how we recover from those mistakes." ~ Bo Bennett

Be respectful and keep in mind these are high profile college kids. They probably don't want a 10 page dissertation on The Art of Picking Yourself Off of the Ground, and at the same time they need to be reminded that this isn't a big deal and not all OSU fans are rabid dogs. If nothing else, think of this- say Hambone gets a chance to talk to the next Greg Oden of football on a recruiting visit. You probably don't want him to say "OSU is a great school and a great program, but the fans are extremely overwhelming." That may send your next Eddie George to tsun.

Are you too good to climb a ladder and knock on bedroom windows like the rest of us?

I have a co-worker with a stalker actually :)...he has had them remove info, but it always comes back in a few months because whoever is in charge is incompetant (my wife had similar problems when she was a student and didn't want her estranged alcoholic father to be able to drop by)

It upset me to read that article. I wish there weren't fans out there who think they'll feel better by trashing a player who tried to do everything he could to make his team win and his state proud. As the article noted, I'm sure that Ryan felt much worse about the loss than any of those dopes who sent such letters. Best of luck to Ryan--there's better days ahead for the Bucks!
