I'm watching the inductions, and saw Gwynn and Ripken , 2 class acts.
I think one of the best things about them was the time with the teams they played for. Look how long The Ripken family was associated with Baltimore forever. Very few of todays players match up. I always thought that Tony and Cal were one of the best players ever to play the game
Congratulations to all the inductees.

The 400 HRs are very impressive of course, but the 3000 hits aren't when it takes you a .276 average to get it. And his on-base percentage is pretty crappy as well, so you can't argue the "at least he walked a lot" angle.

I don't see anyone arguing the "at least he walked a lot" angle.....

3,000 hits is certainly impressive, even with the .276 average.

5 seasons over .300

worst batting average of any member of the 3000 hit club

Most overrated player of his era, by far.

A good player who was good for a very long time and overrated because he was a "nice guy"

2 MVPs. So what? He got one when he played for a last place team that should have gone to Cecil Fielder. More proof that he was overrated because he was a "nice guy" Remember, Mo Vaughn was an MVP over Albert Belle despite the fact taht Belle had better numbers across the board. Gee, wonder why? MLB MVP awards are a joke...
