Had an in-teresting day

Good to hear you are safe. I don't care much for cats myself.

I had friends that lived in one of those wood shingled apartments and every apartment had a porch or patio. Everyone seemed to have those hibachi grills on the wooden porch. We can home once and just as you experienced about half the place was burnt down. I asked if someone's hibachi caught on fire and the firemen said yes, that is what started the fire.Their apartment had water and smoke damage but was livable.

To continue on the crackhead line we had a prospect here yesterday whose wife works at a high dollar rehab place. It seems that quite a few dentists, doctors and anesthesiologists are high or drunk a great deal of the time at work. They can't seem to resist the readily availalble drugs. Makes you think twice before you schedule that appointment.

Glad you're ok.... our cats would have freaked out and hid somewhere. I'm sure a fireman would have been bit if they tried to pick up either cat. Once the cats noticed other cats were in the building I'm sure they would have attacked the other cats to prove they are the dominant animals of the building.

Our cats get pissed when a dog or cat is in "their" yard. We babysat my parent’s dog one weekend, and the younger cat attacked the dog (the dog is a couple times bigger than the cat... the dog then freaked out and went after the cat... good thing my wife grabbed the dog and put her in the next room or we'd have a dead cat on our hands)...

Glad to hear everything is okay. I second what everyone else is saying, it freaks Me out thinking about what some other person being an idiot might do to My stuff.

As for the doctor thing, I caught a story the other night about a doctor who was draining the morphine out of people to us for his own highs

Your cat does something wrong, so punish someone else's dog? Your parent's dog no less.

This thread brought back a lot of memories from a few years ago when I was living in Columbus (Meadow View Apartments on 161, to be exact). One morning I was still in bed but thinking about getting ready for work when my smoke alarm went off. Since I had a friend stay over the night before I thought she had left the toaster oven on or something after she had left for work. Well, smoke starting filling up the apartment, and I realized that it wasn't coming from my unit. Not knowing how bad the fire was or when it was going to come through the wall, I started to panic. The first thing I thought of was my cats (my only pets at the time); they were freaked out by the loud alarm and started running everywhere. They finally ran under my couch, so I cornered them. It was a hide-a-bed, so it was so damn heavy, but I had so much adrenaline going that somehow I threw the sofa to the side (almost breaking a window) and grabbed both cats, along with my keys, phone, and backpack, and got outside. As soon as I got outside I heard the fire trucks approaching the complex. A neighbor told me that a unit on the other side of the building was on fire. It turned out that the fire had started in the mulch. I smelled like a chimney, all my friends (and Manfred) were away or at work, and almost everything I owned was damaged. Ultimately I didn't lose much, and I did have renter's insurance, but I had to move into a new apartment and buy all new things (the only good clothes I had were the pajama bottoms I was wearing and a sweatshirt, and they reeked). Luckily all people and animals were OK, and the fire was contained to a few units. To this day, any smell of smoke makes me panic at first, and I get really nervous when I see fresh mulch resting up against a building!

I'm glad everyone is OK, VprHis. It's certainly a scary feeling to see those emergency vehicles outside your home!

mightbeabuck,

we didn't punish the dog... we took her to the next room. I grew up with that dog, it's as much mine as it is my parents (or so I think, my parents would disagree :wink2: ).

I don't know if you've ever tried to pick up a pissed off cat... if not, DON"T!! A dog is a lot easier to control than a cat when pissed off...

Gbear, the proper method for picking up an angry cat is to first subdue the beast with a kick to the midsection and then use your strong hand (the one you wack off with) and grab it by the throat. You then lift leaving your weak hand behind your back ... then quickly bring a roundhouse with the weak hand to the midsection but be careful to avoid any swinging claws.
