Guide: How to create and seed a torrent

This is a work in progress, and could use some help. If someone is willing to take screens of some of these steps, that would be great. If you have something to add (like a walkthrough for another piece of software), please post below and I'll add it in. Alternatively (and a better option) we could maintain this information on the wiki, and just provide a link (and c&p) here.

In Azureus:
1. Start Azureus
2. If you don't know it already, determine your default file directory by clicking 'Tools' (on top), then 'Options' (also on top), then 'Files' (on the left-side directory). Your default directory will be listed on the right.
3. Place your file or folder that you wish to share in your default directory. This is an important step!
4. With Azureus running, create a new torrent by pressing CTRL+N, or clicking 'File' and then 'New Torrent.'
5. Select "Use an external tracker," and enter http://tracker.buckeyeplanet.com:2710/announce as the Announce URL.
6. Leave unchecked the next three boxes; 'Add Multi-tracker information...,' 'Add HTTP Seeds...,' 'Add hashes for other networks...'
7. Select 'Single File' or 'Directory' as appropriate for the package you intend to share.
9. The comment field is optional.
10. Hit the 'Next' button.
11. Either browse to select your file or folder, or simply drag them from Windows explorer into this window (it should then populate the 'File' field).
12. Hit the 'Finish' button.
13. Find the .torrent file you just created. If the file you're trying to seed is called 2005Michigan.avi (for example), then your torrent file is probably going to be called 2005Michigan.torrent. Create a new post on BP in the appropriate forum, enter the game info (as appropriate) in the subject line, provide details, information, and/or credit as appropriate in the post itself, and then before posting, scroll down and attach the .torrent file (just follow the instructions). When it's attached, submit the post.
14. Check Azureus, if the .torrent file you created is already loaded and trying to seed (located in the bottom window of the 'Advanced' screen), you must remove it. Right click on it, mouse over 'Remove and,' and then click 'Delete Torrent File.' This is another important step! The .torrent you created, and the one now uploaded to BP are not the same. You need the one from BP, or you will not be able to seed properly.
15. Once you've verified you are not already trying to seed the original torrent, download the one from your new post. It will be linked just above the first red information bar in the post. You may 'Open With' right into Azureus in order to start seeding, or 'Save As' and then doubleclick the file once downloaded. As soon as it's loaded into Azureus, the software should place it in the download window (top frame), and proceed to verify the file locally. This is why the file had to be in your default directory! Once this process is done, it should automatically move the listing to the seed window (bottom frame). At this point, you are now successfully seeding IF you followed step 14 properly.

Notes:
1. The tracker doesn't update constantly. It can take up to a few minutes for your post, and the tracker data to actually show that you are seeding.
2. If you delete your post, you remove the file from the tracker.

Troubleshooting:
Q: I followed all the steps, but Azureus has the torrent in the download window -- it won't seed.
A: Re-check steps 2 and 3. Azureus can't find or verify the file, make sure you put it in the default directory.

Q: I followed all the steps, I'm seeding on my end, but after 5-10 minutes, BP's tracker isn't showing any seeders.
A: Re-check step 14. If you're not communicating with the tracker, it's almost certainly because you're trying to seed with the .torrent file you made, rather than the one downloaded from BP. Remember, you MUST download the .torrent from the post in order to properly seed.

This setup is ready for anyone to upload and seed a game. Simply follow the directions in this thread to do so. This will be a great addition to BP so your involvement is encouraged. Enjoy. If you have a tape that needs to be converted to Divx ask Tim , Rocket or Myself for help.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to add to their torrent this prephrase;
BP Torrent.
This will identify it in the ispy as a torrent and make it easy for us to find.

Example
Thread name;
BP Torrent 1991 OSU - Ind

Using Clarity's outline I have made a series of screen captures to illustrate the steps needed to upload a torrent.

I started by first making a file on a hard drive ie. C;Clarity torrents.
This I made my default directory for azureus as noted in step 3 above and shown below.

fwindowgu4.png

Inside the "Clarity" torrents file I made a folder named after the game i was going to upload ie 2002 OSU -Indiana.
This is where I would copy a dvd to in order to have it handy for the upload. Your file should already be in the form in which you are going to torrent it.

Your torrent attachment, that would be the game file as an attachment, will be uploaded to your default file.

Now to set up azureus to make your default file.
This image shows azureus in it's opening window. Click on "advanced" on the upper right hand side to get to the torrent window
vuzeopeninggv1.png

2. If you don't know it already, determine your default file directory by clicking 'Tools' (on top), then 'Options' from the drop down menu (also on top).
In the options window click on the word 'Files' (on the left-side directory). Your default directory will be listed on the right.

Now you can see or edit your default directory as you see fit. Be sure that the three boxes checked are also checked in your window. Then click on "my torrents" at the left. to return to the advanced window.

Now we can start to make your torrent!
4. With Azureus running, create a new torrent by pressing CTRL+N, or clicking 'File' and then 'New Torrent.'
In the torrent window that comes up
5. Select "Use an external tracker," and enter http://tracker.buckeyeplanet.com:2710/announce as the Announce URL.

After you have entered the tracker you must click on single or directory depending on if you are uplaoding a single file as in a vor format or a directory (whole file) as in a vob format.

9. The comment field is optional.
10. Hit the 'Next' button.
11. Either browse to select your file or folder, or simply drag them from Windows explorer into this window (it should then populate the 'File' field).
12. Hit the 'Finish' button.

On the next window I have selcted Directory because the example is a vob format and has several files.
13. Find the .torrent file you just created. If the file you're trying to seed is called 2005Michigan.avi (for example), then your torrent file is probably going to be called 2005Michigan.torrent.

singleordirectoryoe4.png

azureus will then display the details of your torrent.

torrentdetailsox6.png

Clcik next and it will take a few minutes for it to be made.

Once the torrent is made you must find it. It should be either on your desktop or in the default file.

Create a new post on BP in the appropriate forum, enter the game info (as appropriate) in the subject line, provide details, information, and/or credit as appropriate in the post itself, and then before posting, scroll down and attach the .torrent file (just follow the instructions). When it's attached, submit the post.

For example
BP Torrent 2002 OSU 45 - Ind. 17. vob
provided by Best Buckeye
.

To get the proper torrent you next scroll down in the post window and click on "manage attachments"
manageattachmentspi8.png

I have already browsed for and inserted the torrent for upload.

When the torrent is uploaded close the manager and you can find the attachment down by the attachment manager.
copy and past that into the torrent post you are making.

finishedpostjy9.png

Then submit the post.
15. Once you've verified you are not already trying to seed the original torrent, download the one from your new post. It will be linked just above the first red information bar in the post. 'Save As' and then doubleclick the file once downloaded. As soon as it's loaded into Azureus, the software should place it in the download window (top frame), and proceed to verify the file locally. This is why the file had to be in your default directory! Once this process is done, it should automatically move the listing to the seed window (bottom frame). At this point, you are now successfully seeding IF you followed step 14 properly.

when it is done loading the torrent will move to the bottom section of azureus and begin seeding.
