Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/...moving-toward-reunion-heres-what-we-know.html

Rutgers is in: The university is ready to meet the requirements Schiano has laid out in order to accept the job, NJ Advance Media reported on Friday. It is believed only a last-minute snag or a change of heart by the coach himself could derail the anticipated hire, according to three individuals with knowledge of the process. The university Board of Governors’ athletics committee, the group that would need to recommend Schiano’s hire to the full BOG, met last Thursday. Once the consulting committee recommends Schiano’s hire to the BOG - it is not clear if that has already occurred since committee meetings are closed to the public - the BOG will need to call a special meeting to approve Schiano’s hire.

When could that be? The full BOG meeting would be public and can only convene after a 48-hour public notice can be provided. So at this point, the earliest Schiano can be formally hired is Wednesday.

What is Schiano asking for? Schiano is believed to have made what one person called “significant” demands during a meeting with athletics director Pat Hobbs and athletics committee chairman Greg Brown last Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio. The specific rundown of Schiano’s wishlist is not known, but he is believed to be seeking significant investments including his annual salary, a increased salary pool for his assistant coaches and facilities improvements, potentially including a new football-only facility to replace the Hale Center that would include an indoor practice space.

any chance they could schedule Tennessee and kick their ass like next year?

Do we think a schiano second act would work? Much of his first runs best years were in a watered down big east after the best teams left. Now he'd need to rebuild in the b1g east with tsun, osu, and psu taking all the best nj talent.
what do you count as "working"? If they can turn into what Northwestern is this year....I'd consider that a pretty big step up.

I don't like it because there is zero upside for OSU if Rutgers is better.

Right now OSU has to play 9 conference games while the SEC teams only have to play 8.

Until that's leveled out, I have zero issues with one or two of those 9 being MAC teams in disguise.

We get all the SOS we need out of PSU/tsun/relevant West team of the year

Start with not being 50 pt dogs and no one taking them to cover. Eventually average a bowl every other year. They're a long way from that but if that isn't the minimum you expect might as well quit or drop down to division 2. I just have doubt anyone can accomplish that there.

He had/has great relationships with NJ HS coaches... even has baseball and basketball coaches looking out for him...

Just by making a dent into NJ again will dramatically change the program...

Evan Flood ... Four-star running back Jalen Berger meeting up with Jonathan Taylor after the Iowa win. Both Jersey backs

and if he regains the Florida pipeline like he did in the day.. will bring program back to respectability in short order...
No doubt. The reason why both Rutgers and Maryland suck as bad as they do is that they can't keep local/regional studs home. If either/both start to do so, then look for them to be a bit of a pain...
