Actually how many schools can say that? Maybe 6-7 if that..

I would say many more than that...consider the Pac 10 schools and their prominence in sports that are not as popular in the East (Water Polo for instance)

The Bucks are in that list as well...Football and W BBall off the top of my head

Notre Lame is in a state of disiray. If they want Meyer they are going to have to wait till after about the 2nd of january. Which mean then he will decide so they won't have a coach till around the tenth of january. Then what happens if he decides to stay at Utah. Then they are fucked. They will only have about 20 days to do some recruiting and by then most players will be picked from and the ones they already have on board don't want to wait around that long. Also until Notre Lame joins a conference they are not going to return to national greatness because their schedule is too hard, but that is what they have to play if they don't want to join a conference.

Mike and Mike just said something to the affect that Greg P's father said that they may now be interested in ND...
that was said on the lemming chat yesterday. nothing new.

But who are they going to talk to about the possibility about playing there. No one because there isnt a coach.
do you honestly think ND didnt have Meyer already locked up before firing TW? I dont see a school like ND canning their head coach in one middle-of-the-night discussion unless they have somebody already lined up.

I will be shocked if Urban Meyer isnt in SB next year.

do you think he would really want to run meyers scheme and get the hell beat out of him every week? 6-4 225 alex smith can handle it in a mid major conference but the pounding with the big boys would be killer, it will be hard for myeres to get a top flight man to run his option-pass scheme

also note mike is an nd boy

Hey buckeyenation I didn't say anything about Meyer not being the coach in that statement. I just said there isn't a coach there now. And Meyer has said he isnt saying anything till after the bowl game because that is more important now. So it is going to be awhile b4 they have a coach unless Meyer isnt the guy.

Also the reason why it doesnt matter who the coach is at notre Lame, they arent going to be great is:

Bob Davie said on espin. He said he and his staff took a list of top 100 recruits and sat down and realized they could only recruit 33 of the kids because of the tough admissions set by the school. He also went on to say that most of the top 25 teams would have been able to recruit as many as 90 of them. This just goes to show you that they aren't going to be able to get the recruits they need to go up against the big boys.

Nation I agree and disagree, he's a very good coach, but his system is tough and the one he ran at bg and utah need to be modified for the big boys in d1. kids will come for this, but not the world beater qbs. anyone who would put themselves in that situation is taking a huge risk. smith takes more hits than any, or a great majority of other qbs based on his system.

how many guys on the recruiting board here do we have a wait and see approach on? a hell of a lot it seems to me. this is overblown along with their schedule, being the hardest in the country. they play as many bcs teams and as b10, b12, sec, acc teams do with a very weak "preseason" with navy, army, af, etc. atleast in how i see it.

sounds like you know more about his system than i do. I just know i would have to think twice as a QB recruit and ND fan. I wouldnt change my mind if i were going to a USC or scUM......but an Urban Meyer coached ND might be appealing.

I do not know exactly what their standards are, my guess is they are similar to ours, theyour willing to take a couple of risks each year and thats it.

"OSU coaches have let Ringer know they want him but have not offered a scholarship. Academic concerns appear to be the holdup.

Apparently, Ringer may fall in the gray area between being an NCAA qualifier but not meeting Ohio State’s increasingly high standards."

Things like these have changed the landscape of college football. I blame academic standards among other things on penn state's downfall. They had to raise thier academic qualification standards to enter the big ten, which in the past few years the ncaa has raised their standards based the new sliding scales etc. Look at what they have had in 1994 that is the really the only team they have had since joining the conference. Joe Pa's age and strength of schedule in a pwer conference aslo play into it, but why did they have that team that was probably the best in the country in 1994???

Yeah we have high standards here but they are not as high as notre Lame and not as low as schools like scUM st. and NC st. I would rather not take risks on kids unless they show they are willing to dedicate themselves to make it better like I believe tOSU is doing with Ringer.
