penicillin wasn't an invention, no one invented the fungus that produces the stuff... unless you're counting a higher power as an inventor, in which case I submit women as the greatest invention, simultaneously the greatest pain in the ass

Two guys I went to high school with made a trip to a XXX theater back in high school. That sat in the back row with squirt guns filled with white dishsoap. They went ahead and squirted it on a couple of people in front of them.

The guys were both over 6'5" and played Big Ten football. No one was going to pick a fight with them, but they are probably lucky they did not get shot.

If I had to be serious - I would say the most important is language. The second most important would be mathematics. Although some (me included) would say that the latter was (is) really discovered and not invented.
