Great win tonight against IU

It's nice to see the team and the staff has not packed it in for the season. It would still be a minor miracle to get eligible for the NIT, but it could happen.

Even more, a major miracle to get eligible for the NCAA (meaning we have to win the Big Ten Tourney lol). But hey, a guy can dream.
 
Velimir had a fantastic game. Maybe this is kind of a silly, quick-fix kind of observation, but I feel like if we get him 10-15 shots (it's only happened twice all season now, and both were wins), we've got a good shot at winning against any Big Ten team, 'cept maybe Illinois. Leach is a fine defender, and Vel still went 11-14 from the field. It's a damn shame we're losing him, but I feel like if OB would put the offense on his shoulders, we could make the kind of surprise showing at the Big Ten tourney you're talking about.

I have absolutely no doubts that Dials and Radinovic, with newfound contributions here and there from Jenkins and even Harris, could bang with anyone in the conference on a regular basis. My only skepticism on a tournament run would be how well A) Stockman shoots, B) Billings steps up, C) BFC contributes, and D) Sullinger plays under control. If atleast 3 of those things happen, they could definitely surprise some people.

The 2 big men stepped it up nicely against Indiana. Too bad the season is almost over. Stockman has also shown remarkable improvement through tonight going from what was basically a schoolyard player with no D at the beginning of the season to a much more disciplined offensive player who also gives alot of effort on the D.

You really have to give Stockman some major props. The transforamtion of Tone has been remarkable as well as difficult for both Tone & the team (including the coaching staff). I just hope that he does not regress over the summer & that he finds his shot. Next season should be a much better one for Stockman as well as the team because of his evolution. He will particularly benefit from being able to play his natural position more often, the 2, next season with Butler, a true PG out top!

Stockman's D effort last night set up what proved to be the winning points. That has to be a boost in confidence to somebody who probably believed that the only way to stardom and winning was through the offense. Give 'm hell Stockman. Hopefully this makes him a true believer that D matters as much in basketball as it does in football. Hopefully he will start listening more to Obie.

Stockman's been a pretty good on ball defender most of the year. I'm sure he averages more than a steal a game. All I want him to do is keep it to 6-8 shots a game, and not try to create too much himself. I never saw film of him at Clemson, but I'm going to bet that a lot of those threes he drained there were off screens, spotting up. Nobody on OSU seems to know what this 'ball movement' thing is, but if that was strictly his role on offense (pass first, take open 3s), he'd probably be better off. Then again, O'Brien is a basketball genius, and I'm a loser. So regardless of how he uses his guys, in Obie I trust. Just as long as they make the big dance next year.

I must admit, early in the season, I was a Tony Stockman supporter. But there was a time during the middle of the season, when everyone was writing him off as a terrible player, i'd lost confidence he would ever change his mentality for how he plays. But so much credit goes to O'Brien AND to Tony. These last few weeks, he really really is such a different player. He grasps the team concept now, he's not been taking many bad shots, and his defense really hasn't gotten better.

He will never be a "good" defensive player (although he has quick hands to get the occasional steal), and he's a streaky shooter, but atleast he's now a good team player.

Stockman's D has improved dramatically from the start of the season when it was essentially non-existant. Right now it's better, but below average. His biggest problem is he may be one of the worst players I've ever seen at getting around picks. Watch him closely and you will see he gets nailed by almost every pick, some of them take him 2-3 seconds to get by. At times these picks will leave him under the basket while his man is shooting a open 3.

Still, l have to agree with everyone giving Tony props. It's extremely difficult to change your style of play, especially mid-season. His shot selection has improved, especially since his hiatus. I don't think he feels comfortable on offense yet and may be thinking too much. If that happens this year or next I think his shooting % will improve.

I definitely agree about the screens. He just does not fight through them whatsoever. The rest of his game, I think will be commendable by next year, or very well could be. I think his shot does have something to do with confidence, and for him to adjust midseason as he has done, has been truly remarkable.
