What’s the word on Jonah Jackson?
Ohio State is in a bit of a dire spot on the offensive line heading in to the 2019 season. The Buckeyes have returning talent that’s at least seen the field before in Branden Bowen, Joshua Alabi, Thayer Munford and Wyatt Davis, but very little proven players behind those four, and less pure numbers than usual. They filled the gaps a bit with the 2019 class, but only one of the four incoming freshmen, Harry Miller, is considered game ready, and Enokk Vimahi has a two year mission to go on.
Because of the lacking depth and experience, Ohio State has been not-so-quietly searching for at least one graduate transfer to add to the offensive line room, and for a while, it seemed like the answer would be Rutgers guard Jonah Jackson. Jackson is one of the best linemen in the transfer portal, and following a visit to Columbus a few weeks ago, it felt like it was only a matter of time before he announced that he’d be spending his final year as a Buckeye.
That announcement never came. Jackson kept his options open, and took a visit to Norman to see the Sooners, and the feeling around Ohio State seems to be that his visit to Oklahoma went very well. Now, does that mean that the Buckeyes are out? Not necessarily. Ohio State is still very much in this one, and will keep up their efforts to land Jackson. However, Oklahoma is in the lead, and as of right now, I think he could be a Sooner any day now. The longer he waits the better for the Buckeyes.
This will, unquestionably, bring up more doubts about Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa. It would be yet another whiff on the recruiting trail for a man that was hired by someone currently not coaching Ohio State. It would also add more problems to a line room that already, as mentioned, isn’t in a great spot, and doesn’t necessarily have the kind of elite coach needed to make something like that work.
Obviously Studrawa isn’t getting fired in February, or anytime before next December at the earliest. However, this is very much a contract year for Greg, and a miss on yet another big time offensive line target would be a pretty large red flag on a résumé already covered in red flags.

- Ohio State offered 2021 Georgia tight end Cane Berrong. I don’t expect he’ll end up anywhere but Georgia or Notre Dame.
