Good luck from a Gopher fan!

It's a long trek, but your new digs look pretty swell. Great facilities, and if you've got to live in that weather, you might as well use it to your advantage in november. Good luck against USC next fall. I guess that kind of hurts the pitch to Seantrel to stay home and watch him play :p (just having some fun, I'd rather see him stay home)

Boom Herron is a steady 4-5 yard guy, his big runs are more of the 12-15 yard variety than 50. Saine is improved, but still needs to emerge as a more natural runner (the athleticism is there). The two frosh have been impressive, but not headlined by Berry. Pryor's HS teammate, Jordan Hall, has been a star in camp so far and exceeded everyone's expectations. Most tagged him as a slot/ATH type coming out of HS, but he's now a stout 5'9" 185ish, has maintained his speed but shows great vision, toughness, and hits the hole hard. He doesn't dance in the hole like many speed backs.

What happened to Willie Mobley? Just not a good fit?

I should have guessed Seantrel would come up! If he is playing in the Big Ten it will be in Columbus or Mpls next year (and yes Gophers have a legit chance) but my guess is he will be playing in Mpls fall of 2010 as part of the opposing team.

Willie was a little low on the depth chart, (low 2nd string, high 3rd string type), but his family moving out to LA also played a large role in transferring to UCLA. It was a very friendly departure, which isn't surprising because Willie always had a big smile on his face when I saw him.

OSU had a lot of depth at DE, both current and incoming, much more than he'll see at UCLA:

Starters/regulars:
Jr Gibson (probably drafted next spring)
Jr Heyward (returning starter)
Jr Worthington (DT, but plays 3-4 DE a lot too)
So Williams (stud)

Other DEs:
Sr Wilson (former starter, lost for yr two straight seasons)
So Thomas (LB/DE type hybrid, finally coming into his own)
So Wells (stolen from SEC country vs UGA, etc)
Fr Newsome (LB/DE hybrid, will redshirt, good pass rusher).
Fr Fellows (5* SDE type)

DT depth chart (Mobley was looked at as a possible combo DE/DT guy):
two seniors & junior in top-3
two stud frosh in Goebel/Simon, plus a solid 3rd in Bellamy

Incoming recruits:
2010 LB/DE Jamel Turner - all-american as a junior, academic/off-field trouble, but a phenomenal talent
2011 DE Steve Miller - 5* type prospect, probable future buckeye.
2010 Darryl Baldwin, JT Moore - both developmental guys, but very early targets by OSU
2010 LB/DE Durham - sleeper out of texas, could put his hand in the dirt

How does the QB situation look up north? I've always liked Adam Weber, since he popped up on OSU's radar, and MarQuies has a lot of talent as well. Are they planning some dual qb packages?

They might run a few packages like that to get Marquies in the game, and utilize this athletic talents. I think next to Pryor you could argue he is the most athletic QB in the Big Ten (its him or Juice). Obviously there is a gap though between Pryor and #2.

Weber is still the man though in Mpls. 3rd year starting, threw for almost 3,000 yards and only 8 picks last year. He and Decker have a connection too.

Gophers have a much stronger team than 2008 and a much tougher schedule. Hoping for 7-5, with 4-4 in conference play.

Aboot how many wins do you expect for the gophers this year?
7-5 and 4-4 in the Big Ten. I think we dont garner a ton of respect, considering we have some real difference makers at key spots (arguably the best WR, one of the top 3 corners, best KR) and one of the deepst D-lines in Big Ten play. The team is light years deeper than even last year, and that will show. Weber is a seasoned junior. WR corps is very deep. Two strong starting CB's.

Running the ball and strong DE play remain the largest unknowns, with running the ball being the iffiest right now. Good backs, not great, but the OL is anyones guess.

I think Gophers beat:
Syracuse
Air Force
Wisky
NW
Pudue
MSU
South Dakota

and lose to:
Cal
PSU
OSU
Iowa
Illini

6-6 could be a real possibility as well. PSU/OSU/Iowa are all road games btw.

My grandfather was a Gopher a long time ago, so I always keep an eye on them. Hope they do well for you, and that looks like a hell of a new stadium (and will be quite an advantage late in the season).

Best of luck and Thnx for the well wishes.

By more than 7?

:paranoid:

Considering that Syracuse:
Had 19 players defecting in the past 6 months (including all 3 kickers--unheard of);
Has 1 win versus a winning BCS program in the last 28 attepmts;
Their QB hasn't faced a HIGH SCHOOL defense in 4 years;
This will be their 1st game with an entirely new coaching staff and scheme

I sure as hell hope its by more than 7

That's what I like to hear. That spread jumped out at me immediately.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. Good luck to you guys, as well.
